Talk on the national game

I see the AFL have caved in, what are they trying to hide and why dont they want Demetriou to take the stands?
Massive backflip by the AFL, so he cant be paid in 2014 but he can receive his 2014 payments upfront in 2013 what a farce
AFL statement: Hird to be paid in full
December 13, 2013 7:11 PM

Club Statement
Essendon Football Club Chairman Paul Little has made the following statement:

This matter has been an unprecedented situation for the Essendon Football Club and for the AFL to deal with.

Whilst it is acknowledged that James Hird’s pay wasn’t dealt with in the formal Deed of Settlement between the Essendon Football Club and the AFL, complex discussions relating to James Hird’s legally enforceable employment contract have continued between the parties. It has been very difficult to have this matter adequately resolved whilst being played out in the public arena.

To settle this impasse, the Essendon Football Club has resolved that it will pay James Hird in advance to cover the 2014 year consistent with Hird’s employment contract obligations. This also meets the implied terms of the Deed of Settlement. The implied terms of the AFL sanction indicate that James Hird cannot be paid for a 12 month period therefore he will not be paid during the calendar period January 1 – December 31, 2014.

The AFL has accepted the Essendon Football Club’s position that James will not be paid in 2014, and equally the AFL have accepted that the Essendon Football Club has the right to make payments to James Hird in the 2013 year as it sees fit.

The AFL and Essendon have now both accepted this matter is concluded to both of their satisfaction.

LOL, Hird is laughing all the way to the bank.

Bring the game into disrepute and get a year off, all expenses paid in advance.

Let that be lesson to anyone else thinking if doing the same thing.

Think of it as severence pay, he wont be back. Infraction notices will come and he will never set foot within the AFL again IMO.
Surely that is the end of Andy now, the AFL have cocked up royally in this fiasco and for some reason they are hell bent on not going to court, what have they got to hide? Less than a week ago he said he would go to his grave knowing the AFL or the EFC were not paying Hird lol.
The whole situation has been handled apallingly by Andy

There was only ever going to be one winner in all this and thats the AFL.
I have new found respect for Andy D.
He obviously listened to Tania Hird, she said for the AFL to stop making threats, look's like they have.

Well if he doesn't coach again then the Essendon Board should be sacked as they have cost the club an extra $2M for extending his contract by 2 years.

Essendon should have sacked him instead of giving him an extension.

Can't see AD surviving next year either.

FFS why is any of this Andy D's fault.
This has all been brought about by the conduct of the Essendon FC and in particular Hird and Corcoran. They should never work in the industry again just like Dank and Robinson.
Dr Reid should also be struck of the medical register, he has the ultimate responsibility in all of this.
If he wasn't across it all he is not fit for duty.

Just remove EFC from the comp and bring in Tassie

Don't think anyone will argue with Hird's role in all of this, IMHO he needs to be removed from the game.

But Andy D also has to go .. He tipped the Bombers off, clearly wants to avoid court and in particular the witness box for the scandalous details that would emerge/be confirmed, oversee's a poorly managed deal that prevents Hird being paid for season 2014, then re-negotiates a deal that allows exactly that!

He's been involved in too many shady backroom deals on this one and is playing his part in bringing his own competition into disrepute.

Disagree with removing Essendon, that's a bit ridiculous, but a team from Tassie needs to happen for sure, should have happened before GWS. Would be awesome if Richmond relocated, they could then be the Tasmanian Tigers. Would like to see a team out of the ACT as well but keep the current comp at 18 max so it would mean relocation.

Ok, let me get this right, removing Essendon from the comp is a bit ridiculous but you want to relocate Richmond to Tassie?
You would also like to see a team in Canberra (a pro league/union state) maybe Collingwood would like to relocate?

What you think removing Essendon is a good idea.
Queensland & NSW are also pro league/union states & there are 2 teams from each of those states so yeah why not ACT.

AFL tightening the screws on Hird now - They've banned him from the Bombers Christmas party.

That'll learn him!

The AFL at their hilarious best.
So Hird was allowed to attend our B&F night, is allowed to attend every AFL and VFL match that Essendon plays, can have players come over for a bbq or dinner but cant go down to the pub for a Chrissy show lol

He won't be back.

No doubt infractions on there way. The only question who and how many.

Also essendon better hope that in 10 or do years that these players aren't having health problems due to side effects eg. Higher production of cancer cells is one being discussed
