I think that is why they signed waivers to protect them from exactly that.

This is an utter and complete farce. Andy D has to go. They went soft on Essendon there should have been no deals made just sanctions.
Essendon you are nothing more than Lying Cheating Scum Flith!!!!!

Am so disgusted by the way this has all been handled.

but why take it out on Essendon????

I don't think Hird is a lying cheating scum filth, because if he is all those things, then why did Andy make a deal????

Andy didn't want it to go to court and lose

the bombers pushed the boundaries, but the AFL have let them push the boundaries to where they wanted them.

I disagree.

I think Andy went light on Essendon and was happy to negotiate a penalty as the consequences of coming down hard on them, in all reality hitting them with what they should have been hit with, would have potentially had Essendons players spend two years out of the game.

Now, with a $1.125bn TV rights deal stating 9 games per weekend Andy had bigger things to worry about.

I think it really all does come back to the TV deal.

The lesson here is to write a clause into the next contract about any participating club bringing the game into disrepute.....

The NRL got it right with Cronulla. WHACK WHACK WHACK with more to come something the AFL should have done with both Essendon & Adelaide. They went soft on all parties, but really quick to whack Matt Rendell. Trigg should have been banned & sacked and never allowed back in an AFL club. The same with Hird. He is behind it all and should be banned for life no exceptions ifs or buts

Such a clause would substantially reduce the offer I'd imagine, and the AFL won't take a penny less than the optimum amount they can get.

Totally agree

Andy D decisions would have been 110% motivated by the business of the AFL not the justice of paying a correct penalty

The AFL will never smash a team again like they did to Carlton, it's not good for business especially when it's one of the big Melbourne clubs.

A strong Essendon is good for business especially if the likes of the Gold Coast and GWS rise to the top in the next 5 years.

Settle down Newbie
Steven Trigg should have been sacked and never allowed back in the door at the Crows he willfully manipulated & deliberately cheated the salary cap and lied about it. James Hird and all his Essendon Cronies are just as bad. None of them should be allowed back into football ever again.

If found guilty by ASADA then yes I agree with your sentiments. Until that happens its play on.

Wasn't it trying to manipulate the draft, not a salary cap issue.
Agree the AFL have to take tougher stands on these issues & ban the culprits for life. Tippets manager should also have got a life ban & Tippet should have got more. While I'm a Hird fan he shouldn't be allowed to coach again.

If ASADA come out with some infraction notices he wont coach ever again.

I don't think he will coach anyway. Essendon have extended his contract by two years and I think that he will announce his retirement from coaching just before his suspension is finished, then Essendon will payout his contract and he can sit on his arrogant ar$e for the next 24 months getting paid a million a year doing nothing.
