Turnover of SANFL Coaches

Postby SANFLnut » Wed Sep 04, 2013 6:20 pm

Plenty of scuttlebutt around suggesting the majority of coaching positions are about to be turned over. Obviously some of these rumours won't be true, but so far I've heard:

Collins gone from West
Fuller gone from South
Bassett going to North Melbourne
Francou to Sydney
Godden offered an AFL job interstate
Massie to be sacked on Monday
Mcgegor left without a team to coach
Laird weighing up his future
Maloney at Sturt? Surely we can find something else for him so that we get the clean sweep!

Would not want to be the last club to hire a coach this year - may not be much left!

Pedantic point of order ... Massie's contract ends this year so if he doesn't coach next year it's not because he was sacked, but rather that he wasn't reappointed.

Even so it is quite possible that ALL clubs could be looking for a new coach. Never seen that before.
No point in Sturt changing coaches until they have some $ and some fair players.
Think they did quite well this year considering their list.

I know Jarman cops a lot of shit around the place, but surely he'd have something to offer a club?

Jarman had North playing great footy during that period and he had the place alive, at least for most of his tenure looking from the outside. Pretty much any coach that got his club to a Grand Final during the past decade or so would have something going for them given there was only ever one spot available.

If you had strong structures around the club, I reckon Jarman could compliment. For the publicity and entertainment of the SANFL I'd like to see him coaching again. Couldn't be worse than the boring football most of the coaches have their teams playing at the moment.

Jarman brought hope and enthusiasm to North and then a bunch of handy players. Perhaps not the right coach to take a side to a flag, but could do a good job for a club struggling.

It would be amusing if Jarman ended up coaching at Westies. That would be significantly different game styles to watch from one year to the next.

Is Rehn a chance to come back and coach westies?

Greg Mellor would be one that is a good chance of leaving Richmond for the top job at Westies.

I would think that Mellor is happy at Richmond FC
