I left my lucky Port scarf at home that day and begged and bawled to mum for her to go back home and get it. Had the sooks on all day and we lost.

1997 GF - Same lucky scarf was reluctantly left at home as I was working in the downstairs members bar. same result.

Still have the scarf - hopefully I'll get to wear it to another GF again one day.

I was 3 rows back with my brother and father when this happened. It seemed like a gust of wind tipped him upside down. I can still see the fear in his face as he came down. Tragic thing.

Apparently a couple of gates were just thrown open to cope with the crush of people, or the crowd just pushed on through and they couldn't be stopped. There are a couple of other stories about masses of people getting in without being counted owing to the sheer numbers. Obviously the 66,000 odd official figure was a few thousand short.
I really appreciate the thinking of the day which led to people being allowed to sit around the boundary line. These days organisations are so shit scared about doing something wrong they'd never take pity on those extra thousands and bend the rules so they could enjoy the day. 1976 grand final was one of the greatest spectacles of the SANFL.

I was on my way to the ground when it was announced over the radio that the gates had been closed, so we headed back home. It was only when we got home did we realise that the gates were opened again to let those lining up into the ground.

A real pity I missed the game and one of the all time great GF performances by Rick Davies.

I don't understand the hate of Footy Park as a stadium. Sure, it had some bad parts, especially compared to other AFL venues, but the facilities and viewing are still better than any suburban venue.

1988 Escort Cup GF, over 31,000 in attendance, beautiful night and good footy, great result for Woodville (over Port) and coach Russell Ebert doing the lap of honour with the team.

OK a bit off the usual but as a playing life member of the Kensington Baseball Club .....
The one and only GF played at Football Park between Kensington and West Torrens.
3 Home runs to Jeff Feitchner ( to equal a record held by Gerry Roberts another Kensington player ).
With the game in the balance early with two on base and two out a long fly ball to centre field looking like a home run to put the Eagles 2 runs up Jim Gladstone flew like a bird a caught a screamer to silence the Eagle for the rest of the game.
Kensington premiers !!!!!!!!!!!!

SANFL memories are few and far between. 2011 was the only year I've watched South play finals there, so I guess by default the win against the Bays is my greatest SANFL memory at the ground

AFL wise..the 2004 prelim was one the greatest games I've attended, despite the result. The win the following year in the QF against Adelaide also springs to mind, although a much different style of footy that night. St Kilda crushing Port early in 2009 was also memorable for personal reasons.

Went to a SA v VIC game there in about 97/98 which was a corker. Footy at its best that night.

well as a bays supporter i was too young to see 85-86...

so most of my memories are of the crows:

1991 - Crows V Blues Round 2 - my first crows game
1992 - Crows V Cats - Hodges kicks 11
1994 - Crows v Blues - Modra kicks 13
1995 - Bays v Port Round 1 - Bays smash port
1995 - Crows V Hawks - young Andrew Mcleod in only his 2nd Game kicks the winning goal.
1997 - Crows v Power - 23 points down 3/4 time, sitting in the outer in the pouring rain
1997 - Crows v Eagles - Semi (i think this was put off by the death of Diana.
1997 - Crows v Cats - Semi (how did Leigh Colbert's mark not get paid, ball up and we go down and kick a goal - game over)
2005 - Crows v Power - Semi. If i remember correctly i saw Williams put all of the power behind the ball.
2009 - Crows v Essendon - Elimination Final - Crows smash Dons

Footy Chick I'm not having a go but I noticed you have both Port Adelaide and Adelaide as teams you support, I'm going to assume that you do not see Port Adelaide as 1 club? Will you still follow Port Adelaide in the SANFL next season even though they are now the Power Reserves or will you follow the Crows Reserves in the SANFL?

Also as sad as it is I will have to agree with Saintal the 2011 Elimination Final win over the Bays is the best I have seen as it is the only win at Footy Park I have seen for South

As previously mentioned not having a go just curious and not trying to start a new debate I know it has been done to death!
