Two quality players though will be interesting to see how Wundke, Grocke and Ainger could operate together.

Boyd was a critical get. A very good midfielder and probably the first true rover we have had probably since the days of the Szillers back in the early 1990s. If we could get one more decent onballer from the country or interstate it would be considered a very successful recruitment period for us I would think.

It will be interesting to see what they do with the ruck situation now that Parry has retired. I wouldn't have thought the eagles would have too much coin left to recruit a ready-made quality ruckman so I would expect us to raid the ammos. Bornholm would be expected to step up and do the bulk of rucking this upcoming season I suppose and the jury is still out on that. This will probably be the first year I can ever recall when the eagles have not had a top ruckman in their team - Parry, Lindsay, Wiggins, Niemann have all been up there as some of hte best ruckman in the competition during their time. Not sure if Bornholm can reach those heights but was impressed with his improvement this year.

As mentioned, the backline is looking a bit brittle but I think it would be easier to develop someone in that area. Von Bertouch looked really good in a key defensive post in the last 7-8 games of the year. Culley will come back in but I'm still not convinced about him. I don't really know if there is anyone in the reserves who can step up. Last year we recruited McKenzie from country victoira who is a tall defender. Does anyone know how he went this year? Could he step up?

Will Sturt pay the transfer fee for Giles to Centrals before paying the ones to Port this season?

Has Lonergan landed anywhere yet. I have been told that he wont be at Central's and that West has had a pretty good meeting with him.

"The Sydney Swans appear keen to add a mature ruckman to their list, having invited Sturt big man Angus Kurtze to a day of testing on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old considered the opportunity but declined and will stick with his SANFL club where he recently played his 100th senior game."

Interesting to read that Sydney are keen on Angus Kurtze. I have always rated him and wondered why he was not given a chance 5 years ago.

Not sure whether the fact Angus declined Sydney's offer to train with them was more about him not interested in playing AFL at all or whether he is not interested in being put on a rookie list.

Will Centrals be taken seriously by anyone if they poach players by offering them way more money than their current club is paying them and then ask that same club for a discount on the transfer fee?

yet we'd pay whatever the final amount was deemed to be. Giles unborn son will be playing for Sturt before they cough up.

Nah, his development officer trainee spot was only a 12 month contract, so it was up anyway.

Just to correct, he is their SANFL trainee. I was not aware they had one. Thus I go back to my original comment.

Port start training tonight with six contracted players. Wait to see who else turns up.

Who would you have to pay the transfer fee to? Port Magpies dont exist anymore.
Surely any player leaving Port would be free since they are not required players and Port can not pay them their worth.
Why should the Power benefit from the sale of SANFL players?

Why should the Power benefit from the sale of SANFL players?
This is one of the few relevant issues that is covered by the published rules:

Transfer Fees
• To retain existing 1 – 35 listed Magpies players within the SANFL competition, transfer fees for these players to be set at 50% of transfer fee through SANFL points system.
• 36 – 50 listed Magpies players to transfer SANFL Clubs for zero fee.
• From 2014, Magpies listed 15 players can transfer to other SANFL Clubs for fee of $2,500.
• Players from the academy team to have the ability to move to other SANFL Clubs for zero fee.
Until reading this, I didn't know that SANFL clubs supposedly have to nominate with the SANFL their 'top 35' players and their '36-50' (i.e. generally only expected to play reserves) players. If indeed they do, but the transfer fee rules don't make any sense otherwise.

I can't answer the 'why?' questions.

The 1-35 and 36-50 rule has been around for ages, it helps reach a transfer fee.

Best & Fairest finishes can also count, as can number of state league + games played.
