Im not sure this was an umpires report though. I could be wrong.

My understanding was this was a video review by an official and there may be another one coming.

Would love to see the video footage because from where I was sitting I didn't see callum punch anyone he defiantly was wrestling and throwing players around (that's when umpire may have been touched) and I'm positive I seen some rostrevor players involved in said melee, no charges for them though? Hmmm.

I agree. I had a pretty good view of the game, and you'd think you'd remember if someone did two offences that amounted to a 15 game suspension...

Quite right about the involvement of the Rostrevor players too. As I mentioned earlier, it does take two sides to engage in a melee.

I notice the SAAFL website has re-worded that particular charge against Callum Hay from 'EIaM - Engaging in a Melee' to 'ERC - Engaging in rough conduct against an opponent which in the circumstances is unreasonable'. Probably just as well, because just about everyone was involved, apart from the players sitting on the interchange bench.

Not sure which part of the game it was, but I know one of the Roc players ended up with a broken jaw.

Wow 15 games. I was watching the game as a Rocs supporter and I didn't see anything that deserved anything near 15 games. In my 20 years of playing, coaching and watching amateurs I have seen all sorts of crap that deserved big number games and i saw nothing that resembled that in the GF. I must have missed some bad stuff but I feel for Callum. Seems like a harsh penalty from what I saw and compared to what I have seen in the past.

The melee suspension he deserves every game of that. Such a thuggery act, ran from so far away to clock someone.

I watched both GFs with a mate, never seeing SN play before, and in the first game we both commented on how dirty Callum hay was. He was not there to play footy.
The second week, well when the side was getting smashed we all got to see his real side and carry on like a peanut. Deserves to be de registered. We don't need people like him ruining the game for others!

Did not see the umpire contact so can't comment.

He was the main instigator in the fights starting, but I certainly didn't think during or afterwards, "geez, won't see him in the SAAFL ever again"

But, the tribunal has been fairly consistent with striking charges this year, add to that contact with an umpire and the length of suspension can add up pretty quickly I guess

I sat behind him for the 2nd and 4th and he didn't seem that dirty to me. The video may tell a different tale. His prime objective was footy from my view point. He looks like a monster but in my opinion didn't behave like one. If thats the precedent set for the type of game that gets you deregistered we are going to see many players careers end in 2014.

Substantial story in today's Advertiser, not good for SAAFL or Salisbury North. Thugs not required, see you later!

I'm looking forward to seeing this Video now. Must have been a crazy melee. The ones on TV these days are always so tame. This must have had some real spice in the clinches

Easy solution to that, don't fight!!! If people want to be dumb enough and let their egos get in the way then it's their own fault. It's really not that hard to be the bigger man and let it go

Just the SAAFL trying to hurt the northern suburb sides again. That why every northern side has to vote for Gino,
Also the league won't release the whole match footage to Salisbury North. Not surprising as the Rocs player who speared tackled a hawk and knocked him out wasn't sighted at all.

As the SAAFL is a AFL affiliated league cal will get off the inciting the melee charge as in the afl it is fine with a maximum 2000 for the first offense. Nothing in SAAFL by laws about melee and suspension

I'm not lawyer, but isn't that illegal?

I presume in a court of law, evidence is given to both the prosecution (in this case, the SAAFL) and the defence (Salisbury North)?

Nor were any Rostrevor players, despite the fact that it takes two teams to engage in a melee... and I sure didn't see any of the Rostrevor boys running for safety. It's not right.

Surely ROC's would have to be front runners for the flag again next year especially with there new recruits. Should be a great div 1 comp again next year.
