Adelaide will take on North Adelaide in its debut game in the SANFL competition next year.

The SANFL has confirmed the opening round fixture for the 2014 season, with the new Crows State League side – coached by former North Adelaide player Heath Younie – playing at Prospect Oval on Sunday, April 6.

This is the day after Adelaide’s AFL side plays its first home game at the redeveloped Adelaide Oval, against the Sydney Swans.

The SANFL season is set to kick off on Friday, April 4, with night games at Norwood (Norwood v Port) and Glenelg (Glenelg v Sturt). On the Saturday, the Eagles will play Central District at Woodville and South Adelaide will host West Adelaide under lights.

The full SANFL fixture will be released later this month.

A good result. 2 games that should a attract good crowds and lets hope the Central fans don't continue the anticipated slide that was raised in the middle of the amazing dynasty.

But as expected, not a good result for those who like the October GF the week after the AFL GF. If you were to play through 18 rounds and only incorporate one bye (for the state game) from a starting point of the w/e of 5 April, you'd be playing your GF on 7 September! You can stretch it out as much as you want, but with a 10 team comp with no natural byes, there's no realistic way you can make it to October.

Presumably this means the SANFL GF will be the weekend before the AFL GF (21 September). If they build another 3 weeks delay into the system beyond the state game, they could do it Sun 28 September, but having it as a 'hangover game' to the AFL GF would probably depress attendances even more than going a week early. At least on Sunday 21 Sep, they're guaranteed not to have head-to-head competition as the AFL PFs are played Friday & Saturday. Let's not even go there regarding the fact that once you move away from the October long weekend, the rationale for a Sunday GF is a whole lot skinnier as well. Either way the GF looks kinda screwed after the SANFL seems to have abandoned a relatively successful and fairly long-established date.

It is exciting.

I hope we get to play Glenelg. Oh, and South, I hope we get to play them! Hey, I'll be super excited if we get to play South at their ground and at ours!!

I'd like to see us play West as well, maybe Centrals, North and Sturt too! Norwood I know we have in round 1, the Eagles I dont much care for either way, perhaps we wont worry about playing them or the Cravens.

Now I see what the excitement is all about. ;)

You can mark that down as a positive.

I've heard rumors about the state game and Dreamtime at the 'G... I'll be damned if I have to pay AFL rates to see SA play the Vics.

If the AFL wants us to play before their GF, they need to pay better $$$ for rookie and full listed players from the SANFL - This is one bargaining tool we have left and it sounds as if those in charge may have given yet another advantage away

This week I was at the coke factory in Atlanta, interesting history about the change to new coke and the outcry it caused. The SANFL seem to be doing a stellar job of screwing themselves. But will they listen like coke did?

Perhaps this is looking too deep, but I've always been concerned how those inside the SANFL view the competition itself and I think the draw is somewhat a reflection on that. No more so than this season.

I do see your point though.
