SA vs Vic - Sheffield Shield

Postby Coach Bombay » Thu Nov 28, 2013 10:27 am

Paceman Gary Putland may return for his first match of the season for Friday’s Bupa Sheffield Shield clash with the Commonwealth Bank Victorian Bushrangers.

Putland has battled a hamstring injury throughout the early part of the season but returned for South Australia’s Futures League team last week against the ACT Comets, bowling 30 overs and taking 2/86.

In this fixture last season, Putland was at his devastating best with match figures of 12/92 as the West End Redbacks defeated the Bushrangers by nine wickets.

Both teams play for the David Hookes Trophy, in memory of the South Australian great and former Victorian coach.

The West End Redbacks won the trophy last season but Victoria currently lead after winning the RYOBI One Day Cup clash in October.

“We head into this match full of confidence, with a strong team and knowing our best is good enough to win at the MCG,” coach Darren Berry said.

“Unfortunately Joe Mennie makes way for Putland which is a tough call, but again it is better to have to make hard decisions at the selection table.

“Kelvin Smith has joined the South Australian U19 team for their national championships and Trent Lawford gets another opportunity after being unlucky to miss out against Tasmania.”

Guess team selection will come down to whether they want to play a Zampa (spin) or the extra quick in Lawford.

I heard he has made 90 runs in the last 2 years at shield level, 11 innings for an average a tad over 8. And Hussey cant get a game ahead of this clown
