Lyon has to play, not only to keep within the overrates but bounce his probably his most dangerous weapon.

Faulkner has hurt his hand at training today so I doubt he will be able available anyway.

Leading wicket takers in 2010-11 Ashes series:

JM Anderson (Eng) 24 @ 26.04
CT Tremlett (Eng) 17 @ 23.35
MG Johnson (Aus) 15 @ 36.93

The moment Australia underestimate Anderson is the moment he tears them a new one!

Some bowlers simply bowl better being attacked or being defended. There are rather few who are equally deadly either way (Warne an obvious one). Lyon simply is more dangerous when the batsmen look to take him on where I would say Swann is the opposite. Those days when the batting team looks to survive first it gets a lot tougher for Lyon to get them out. So my thinking would be simple. Do you pick a spinner for when things are going well, or when they are going poorly? Over there, if we've got the poms in trouble our quicks should do the job. If England are going well, that's when we'll want Lyon. I say pick him. 3 seamers plus Watson putting in some overs should be more than enough.

Career average in Australia of 37.70 and Vs Australia overall 36.39. Average bowler who is also a bit of a w@nker.

His career average blows out because of his first tour before he learnt how to reverse a ball

If 3 fast bowlers were enough on the Adelaide Highway then they should suffice on the WACA... Then again if he is not going to get a bowl why bother picking him... pick another all rounder in Faulkner.

Unchanged team for me.

Love the Pick and Stick mentality Boof has brought to the table. People feel secure in their roles and can perform at their best.

Team is starting to look good and guys at Shield Level would know the only way they can break into the team is by pure weight of numbers.

When Mickey Mouse was coach Baggy Greens were being handed out to every man and his dog!!!!

From 2009...
Against Australia he has 63 wkts @ 32.73. Which isn't bad, but not amazing.
Career average in Australia is 29.96 which is ok.

But...If you want to pick and choose games to leave in or out, if we take his only 10fa out of the stats (1st test in Eng a few months ago) he averages 40 against Australia.

Doesn't take away from the fact that he is a fierce pole smoker.

Anderson and Broad are still capable of devastating spells and there seems a worrying air of certainty that we will get the job done in Perth.

I hope my fear and paranoia are so sooo wrong but I think this Test will be a lot closer than the first two.

I'm the opposite. I'm thinking England's quicks will see it as a change to try to intimidate our batsmen with the extra bounce and pace, and end up bowling too short

If Harris doesn't get up Coulter-Nile might be the quick bowler to come in.

If I was in the Pom’s camp I’d make these changes for Perth:

- Drop Monty Panesar (obvious)

- Bring in Gary Ballance to replace Ben Stokes to bolster the batting.

- Recall Chris Tremlett to substitute as a bowler for Stokes. Despite his recent dip in pace, Tremlett will be a better bowling proposition because of his height.

- Take their best batsman, Bell, up to number 3 so there’s a chance of forming a decent early partnership.

Bell should definately bat 3 instead of hiding himself down the order.
Tremlett goes allright, WACA will really suit him

I was telling Bresnan that on Sunday.
He didn't seem to believe me.
