Hodge was only unlucky because he didnt realise he needed to keep his mouth shut.

Definitely MacGill.
Lehmann, Siddons, Hodge, Law, Love amongst others all unlucky, but the fact that we can name so many batsman shows quality batsman come around fairly regularly, but for a once-in-a-50-year legspinner to be around at the same time as the greatest ever is unlucky

No, he knew and would have been told by plenty of people to shutup. His ego was so large it managed to override any advice and any common sense the bloke may have had.

Could you make a case for SA's Wayne Phillips being a little bit unlucky? In that he was a glorious batsman in full flight but the shite state of Aussie cricket forced him into the wicketkeeper/batsman role, something he struggled to deal with.

Damien Martyn, unfarily dropped for 6 years when he was around 21. Came back to be one of our best in arguably our greatest team. Also dropped unfairly after the 05 Ashes but made it back again to post a few more good scores.
If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

I suspect Martyn had some off-field issues that may have contributed to him being dropped the last time.

Okay that's bad but why would he get dropped from a cricket team for that?
