Graeme Swann retires

Postby bloods08 » Sun Dec 22, 2013 10:33 am

Rumours going going around that Graeme Swann has retired effective immediately.

Although I dont know the situation, it lookslike another case of the going being too tough and he doesn't want to do hard yards to get back on top.

Hope I'm wrong though.

Edit: just found this on cricket Australia site:

Spinner set to stand down, won't play Boxing Day Test

Reports circulated this morning that England spinner Graeme Swann had retired from international cricket with immediate effect.

Swann, 34, has had a Commonwealth Bank Ashes series to forget, with his seven wickets from the three Tests costing 560 runs, coming at an average of 80 with an economy rate touching four an over.

Those figures are a far cry from his Test average of 29.96 at less than three runs an over. He has taken 255 wickets in 60 Tests.

He has also averaged just 7.2 with the bat in the current series, well down on his career average of 22.09

Swann was instrumental in England's 3-0 Ashes series win in the UK earlier this year where he was England's leading wicket taker with 26 scalps.

England were training at the MCG this morning when news filtered through. He is expected to face the media at a noon press conference (Melbourne time). More to come as soon as we have it.

Graeme Swann retires?????

Postby Jim05 » Sun Dec 22, 2013 10:56 am

What a front running soft c**k
So proud of the Aussies for mentally destroying this mob, hopefully this sets them back for years. Just need us to crush them 5-0 and put an end to Cook's captaincy and Prior and Figjams careers
Thank you Watto for finishing him off

Is this the scenario ?
Swann is about to be dropped for his deplorable 7 wkts at 80.0 this series ?
So he is considering or has retired as a consequence ?

the first time the poms find it all to hard, they take their bat &ball & go home.Swan is a selfish inconsiderate pratt.Hid team &captain needs to have stability&leaders to get out of a slump.this will just deflate the team even more.Well 5-0 is just about odds in now. If they can get a win or two out of the next two tests they would need a miracle

Weak as piss!!!!

Want a bunch of soft cocks but funnily enough except Stuart Broad who has at least grown some balls.

This tour imho has really ruined alot of their legacy, mini dynasty!!!

Whose Next? Anderson, Bell, Cook, Pieterson or Prior!!

He probably did get dropped so spat the dummy. Pretty odd to retire immediately three Tests into a five Test series.

Isn't that what Damien Martyn did in 2006/07? Granted, he was on a winning side...

True, there was a lot of talk around at the time about how weird that was. I remember speculation he was going to be dropped/or had been and even talk of a big falling out with some guys in the side.
