I'd quit too if I played with a bunch of gutless cheats.

Greatest cricket player I've seen.

One of the best batsman ever, good enough bowler to be picked as a bowler in any side and excellent slips fieldsman.

Will go down as one of the Saffies best

Was a great player

Will get shot down a bit but imho his record against the worlds best during most of his career Australia means I wouldn't have him as the greatest all rounder of all time

Vs Aus

With bat- 41 ave
With ball- 38 ave

He gets shot down a bit mainly by Saffer media who at times see him as a bit of a selfish cricketer, tends to bat for himself rather than the team especially in ODI's where he preferred red ink for himself rather than an extra 20-30 for the team.
Media over there are also saying he is retiring due to the Aussies finding some form and he is worried about going through a losing series and he wants to go out while they are on top

An average of 41 against McGrath Warne Gillespie is still pretty good.

We he is 38, seems like a perfect time to retire before his form slides totally south.

A very good career, the numbers with both bat and ball don't lie.

Is absolute BS. Averages 32.5 with the ball. Plodding medium pacer. More than handy, possibly early on would have played as a bowler if he couldn't bat but doubt he'd have managed more than a handful of tests even for SA let along in an Aussie side Kasper, Bichel et al couldn't get into.

Sir Garfield Sobers then daylight ... I'd even venture that he may not be the greatest Saffer alrounder, Shaun Pollock would give that a shake.

Agree with Dedja
Gary Sobers the best I've seen as well

Purely from a BATTING allrounder rating
Kallis is the next best I've seen

Tend to agree

I reckon if the Saffers weren't so strong Shaun Pollock could have been successful as a number 6 bat

His average is inflated because he bowls when SA had no other options to turn too....your argument is absolute BS.

He could bowl around 140 and would of done more so if he didn't have to worry about batting at 4.

Exactly Squids. James Anderson averages over 30 a wicket. Kallis was a much better bowler than guys like Bichel & Kasper too.

On Sobers, he was before my time. Kallis was the best cricketer I ever saw.
