Watson and Pattinson most prob be buggered first up from long spells ?
That might be in Boofs and Clarkeys mindset ?

You might be right though
You wouldn't think SA could make enough runs quickly enough and have enough time to bowl out AU in the 2nd innings
Particularly with no Steyn in the attack

We all know SA wont go for the win - they are conservative and gutless in run chases. They will be playing for a draw - will be interesting if Clarke declares a bit earlier than he normally would to try to entice them into attempt a run chase.

I think it will be extremly rare to see teams enforce the follow on, we now live in the era of sports scientists who can produce so much evidence that shows bowlers don't perform at their maximum performance blah blah blah blah blah without rest blah blah blah

190 overs left in the game including the extra hour of play to make up for the day 2 loss

I think he will be for 40 overs for hopefully 160 runs (4 rpo) then declare with a lead of 400 and 150 overs at them

Don't think we will need 150 overs at them - unless we call in the spudback bowlers

Agree but Clarke is very agressive and worse case scenario for us is they fall a wicket or two short

South Africa managed the Draw (that they should have won) against India not long ago and then a few years back they batted out the 5th day when Faf stayed at the crease... I would not be giving them 150 overs to chase 400. To many good batsman that 'could' click and get them over the line with plenty of time to spare.

IMO 450-500 is required. We bowled them out in a day the first time around, so if we give ourselves a day plus maybe the majority of the last session that should be plenty.

This. Except we will push at 5+ an over to try and get 450+ up.

Its going to be another great nights entertainment. The Aussie brand of cricket is so watchable. Win or lose it is always aggressive.

Agree South Africa have the talent to chase down any total.

I'm just reading the Clarke ashes diary as I type and he talks about how he would rather lose being agressive than draw tests being defensive

Me as a captain I would set 450 as you say I just think Clarke will give them a small sniff

In saying that if Warner gets going we could declare with a lead of 500 and 140+ overs left

This wicket isn't PE, Adelaide or Perth. 350 will be enough to win this match.

Lol.

Pitch report says an excellent batting pitch.

Do I go with REB or Shaun Pollock?

The same Shaun Pollock who didnt understand the Duckworth Lewis rule and miscalculated the target?
Who then got to watch his side dumped embarassingly from their home World Cup and was sacked the next day
I'll take Mal thanks!

You are special Jim. Didn't mention mal. Think Pollock and Haysman might know a thing or two about pitches.

Sorry meant REB!
Of course they know a thing or two about pitches, we have history on our side though, teams dont often win chasing 350+ no matter what the pitch is like

Remember Qld v SA Jim. You don't have a good record with these things.
