Or he could just leave them out and join the Collingwood cheer squad.

Some good signs from the Pies tonight. Shame about Freeman's hammy and Broomhead's broken hand though.

Jesse White was good and Adams is a great pickup. Done well there but what I also liked was that Beams is back and looking ready to go.

Just on a side note I thought Ben Kennedy was ok as well. Bit of the ball and kick a couple.

Thought White looked good- was disappointed Port never made a play for him.

A good hitout for both teams. Much was made of the Pies playing a younger side and it nearly worked out for them. They had the legs towards the end of the game as the Cats ran out of puff. A lot of the Cat players were VFL guys about to make their mark. A really tough break for Burbruy who will be rewarded for his courage at a later stage of the season even though it cost him last night. He's clearly moved up the pecking order at Cat Park.

Josh Caddy looks set to break out and Mitch Duncan is another who can have a massive year. For all the hype about Varcoe's second chance after he was offered up for trade, it was the same old Trav last night. Looked a million bucks early and then faded right out of the game. That 2012 injury seems to have completely stalled the momentum Varcoe had going for him after 2011. Horlin Smith, Shroeder, Guthrie (already made his mark) and Walker are all blokes who have made it easier for the Cats to punt Pods, Chappy, Hunt and Smithy.

Dawson Simpson looks like he could be anything. We really need him on the park. Not many are prepared to talk up Creek because of his poor injury run but if we keep him on the park look out. He looked a happy man at the end of the game. He got through one!

No top four for us this year but I reckon in the next couple of years we'll be right up there again. Beat us while you can or you might have to wait awhile.

REB

Sub him off when he runs out of gas. He is no guarantee to impact when he comes on so not much value as a sub. I'd rather someone younger and hungrier like Shroeder or Stringer do that.

Too much of a risk with injuries, you can't afford to lose a player early then having Varcoe stink it up late in the game.
