Abdur Rehman - Well bowled son

Postby Booney » Wed Mar 05, 2014 10:37 am

Cricket may have witnessed its worst ever over courtesy of Pakistan's Abdur Rehman.

The spinner delivered three consecutive no-balls which were all above waist height in an Asian Cup match against Bangladesh.

So bad was the display that the umpire pulled him from the attack and banned him from bowling again. It meant he finished with the figures of 0-8 off 0.0 overs.

His first ball was among the worst deliveries the game has seen. Check them out.

Could be Tommy, he was taking bets on a dead horse for the Melbourne cup and more importantly he knows what punters want

i dont reckon you could bowl that bad if you tried! surely if the bookies had got to you you would just push a few down leg side, not bowl it straight to the keeper on the full :D

that first ball was the worst since john howard

Umpire made some bad calls here, 1st ball fair enough but ball 2 & 3 were legal as per law 42.6 laws of cricket

6. Dangerous and unfair bowling

(a) Bowling of fast short pitched balls

(i) The bowling of fast short pitched balls is dangerous and unfair if the bowler’s end umpire considers that by their repetition and taking into account their length, height and direction they are likely to inflict physical injury on the striker irrespective of the protective equipment he may be wearing. The relative skill of the striker shall be taken into consideration.

(ii) Any delivery which, after pitching, passes or would have passed over head height of the striker standing upright at the popping crease, although not threatening physical injury, shall be included with bowling under (i) above, both when the umpire is considering whether the bowling of fast short pitched balls has become dangerous and unfair and after he has so decided. The umpire shall call and signal No ball for each such delivery.

(b) Bowling of high full pitched balls

(i) Any delivery, other than a slow paced one, which passes or would have passed on the full above waist height of the striker standing upright at the popping crease is to be deemed dangerous and unfair, whether or not it is likely to inflict physical injury on the striker.

(ii) A slow delivery which passes or would have passed on the full above shoulder height of the striker standing upright at the popping crease is to be deemed dangerous and unfair, whether or not it is likely to inflict physical injury on the striker.

I agree Rams, let him dish that tripe up all day! Could hardly be considered dangerous bowling.

I was surprised to see that he'd been take off as well.
He's a spinner - those last two balls weren't dangerous, just shit.
The ump, albeit doing Rehman a favour, made the wrong call.

the umpire didnt make any mistake at all (if anything he was generous giving him a third opportunity).

playing conditions are a step higher than the rules.

The ICC's playing conditions for ODIs, however, supersede the MCC's Laws for international cricket and according to them fast bowlers and spinners are treated the same. A bowler is warned after his first waist-high full toss, and barred from bowling if he bowls a second.

You would be incorrect if you called that in our comp. I'd be pissed if an ump called waist high balls from spinners

You would need to consult your competitions specific playing conditions. The laws of the game say its not a no ball but each competition (just like the odi's) has its own specifics.

Personally I think it should be a no ball for any bowler as that makes it much simpler to adjudicate at every level and reduces any argument a to what is a slow bowler versus a fast bowler.

That's easy, it's done based on the keeper's position. If he's up to the stumps, it's safe to bowl chest high beamers!
