Nothing idiotic about it at all ... for mine, Central is more likely to miss the finals than make it. The golden era is well and truly goneski.

Time to recruit one Christopher Maurice Pyne then. Could scrub up okay in our hoops.

That would bring me out of retirement for sure!

Great work by Centrals refusing to allow a group of U16's to play their cricket finals in both the Para Districts and Barossa comps.
They've been told if you choose to play cricket finals and don't turn up for the trial games next 2 Saturdays - don't bother coming back!
You would think that with only 2 more weeks of junior cricket they could give the boys a break.

Kids have to make a choice at some stage.
This is footy trial season time.
Tough call to make, but at 16, it's about the right time to make it.

Totallt disagree with your comments mate.
I think its fair enough for U18 level but kids shouldnt have to make a choice at U16 level. Some of these are only 15 with potential in both sports
Isnt the whole U16 comp a trial anyway, only runs for half the season and im sure they trial lots of kids through the whole time it runs

I can see your POV, given the age of the kids and the nature of the competition.
But a lot of these kids would have aims of playing at state junior level and then progressing to AFL (some may even play 18s for Centrals this year) - I know lots of blokes at that age when I was a kid who made that decision. Some of them went on to the big time, some didn't.
Centrals (and other league clubs) were making those calls regarding trials when I was a kid, it's not a new thing.

Yes but when u were a kid it was U17 all a year older than now.
Obviously the real talented ones can make a decision earlier but alot of these kids are just making up the numbers

You know what's on after the next 2 Saturdays?

Round 1.

Time to commit to footy for the 2 month season of U16s if round 1 is only 2 weeks away, isn't it?

It's parklands cricket up against sub-elite football. I'm all for not pushing the kids to make a decision earlier than needed but some perspective is needed here.

Have to agree there, they would have to be playing jets cricket to make it a meaningful comparison.

As for centrals this year, I just can't ever see a centrals side finishing in the bottom 3 or so, which means we will be around the mark again, but I too am worried about our finals chances, especially when you add the port and crows teams into the equation.

Central District 2014

Postby bennymacca » Tue Mar 11, 2014 5:01 pm

Well how have they been going for the past 25 years? Have they finished bottom 2 in any of that time?

If course they have in the past but with recent culture taken into account and apparent basket cases like south glenelg and Sturt...

Gee if that is the attitude shared by your club little wonder you guys dont field junior cricket sides.
The guys have played all year and now have to give up finals for a trial game. Dont forget some of these kids are also playing A or B grade cricket for their clubs and will have to miss finals for them aswell potentially.
All for kids concentrating on footy at on older age but some of these kids are only 14 or 15 and havnt decided which path they will go down yet.
Perhaps this is the reason Centrals are usually average in the junior ranks, I know of several good young footballers that have chosen to return to their grass roots footy or not even bothered going down to Centrals for this reason

Good post RR, and it doesnt just happen at Centrals.
These kids only get one go at being teenagers, and playing cricket with our mates is an Aussie birthright!

Its only u16's FFS, and it is only half a season.
If the kids are training for cicket and not missing footy training then you can see they are committed. I'd want those kids in my squad!
The demands on kids of 14 or 15 are ridiculous and drives a lot of good lads away from playing at league clubs.

Oh and smac it doesnt matter what standard it is....a premiership is a premiership. Its why we play on a bullshit hot day when we could be down the beach. You should know better.

What about the kids that do all the hard work, play in the trial games and then miss out on round 1 selection in a limited season for these kids to waltz back in
