Yes under strict criteria for use where other products are ineffective. There should also be more research into extracting components or synthesising variants that have medical use without impairing driving or other mental functions.

I'd also like to see research into low potency variants of the plant as I need some new hemp shirts to replace the ones I bought 12 years ago which are wearing out, and I am old enough to remember how much better hempen rope was to handle and use than the modern polypropylene ropes. ;)

Why do doctors want laboratory manufactured synthetic cannabis? So they can get more kickbacks from the pharmaceutical industry.

This father in the article obviously cares for his daughter. But why hasn't he just purchased some illegally? These other drugs his daughter is on sound awful. Dope won't hurt her.

Synthetic versions offer the chance to achieve the medical benefits without the psycho-active complications and without making muddle headed users of the natural stuff a danger on the roads.

It has been an issue with herbal source derived treatments before...

For example, the early treatment of heart failure with the tincture (alcohol dissolved extract) of Digitalis was effective in treating heart failure but caused hallucinations and confusion, restricting theose who needed its from safely driving. The later separation of the tinctures components into what were named Digoxin and Digitoxin made this less risky by using Digoxin only. Later synthetic variants had even less side-effects.

Similarly, we could just munch the natural Penicillin mould off pieces of stale bread, but that has toxic effects too and could be fatal if you ate a similar looking but not the same mould. Extracting pure Penicillin worked better, and new synthetic variants provided effective antibiotics as bacteria became resistant to the basic form of Penicillin.

She's taking cannibidol extract. Where would you even get that illegally?

It's in cannabis mate. Geesh.

Did you read the article? The part about the Victorian mum who's daughter suffers the same thing?

Love how you are all for Roids but anti cannabis.

Also not sure why you would want to manufacture cannabis synthetically when it is cheaper and much more beneficial natural.

From the CNN website. Amazing.

For Psyber. You can't take one chemical out of marijuana, you need the whole plant for it to be effective. Does this change your mind?

Lol, I'm definitely not anti cannabis :D

My point is that they only want and need the cannibidol. Not the rest.

That was once the claim for Digitalis too - that it wouldn't work without all the components.
All herbal products have multiple components and it is usually possible to determine which ones have which effects and be selective.

The last thing we need is more stoned people driving cars.

Well, on careful reading, another vote for research into compounds contained in Cannabis, not necessarily for open slather for commercial interests.

I enjoyed my once only small taste of "Coke" some years ago in Sarawak, and felt energised, but I wouldn't advocate an open go for its marketing.
(Unless of course I had the sole franchise... ;) )
