I really hope Hird does coach them next year - all the bullshit that will follow him will be a hell of a bigger distraction for the players & club than they have had to put up with thus far.
Everything will be brought up week in week out ten fold.

Mark Thompson : Premiership coach, respected by all in the AFL community, possesses honesty, selflessness, integrity.

James Hird : none of the above.

Fair point about Hird but one thing that continually escapes people is that Thompson was in the program almost as deep as Hird and knew what was going on aswell. He did receive a decent fine but escaped harsher penalties than Hird because he wasnt in charge so he isnt 100% innocent. Remember Bomber was also instrumental in recruiting the Weapon and in turn Dank to the club

Bomber is a better coach than Hird
Matty Wade is a star and deserves more respect from the forum family!

I think Thompson has had enough of coaching and the stress that goes with it. Im sure hes keen to get back to his role where Hird takes all the stress an issues with the head coach.

Of course he is, runs are on the board.
I think Hird was developing nicely as a coach though and was a decent game day coach, forever tarnished by the off field stuff now

Also has no intention of paying his fine, he will step aside at seasons end and give a big **** you to the AFL

He's slagged the AFL, his own club and anyone else to save his skin.

Regardless of whether the players eventually get show notices it's clear that some bad shit went on ... the Bombers own internal investigation highlighted significant governance issues.

His (and his wife's) public actions alone have brought football into disrepute.

Amazingly, Essendon still stand by him.

For a powerhouse organisation they are a train wreck and have been since they carved the comp a new arsehole in 2000 and lost the 2001 GF. When you think of the powerhouse clubs not many don't play in @ least a prelim final over a 10 year period...

Things happen for a reason.
2001 we lost to a exceptional Brisbane side despite leading at half time. Unfortunately Sheedy played unfit players in the GF and we got overun by a Lions side whose players were put on saline drips at half time ( a practice now banned by the AFL).
At the end of 2001 the cap hit us hard and we lost several key players to other clubs. Our recruiting and drafting were very ordinary and Sheeds probably stayed on a year or two too long. We then turned to Knights who's style whilst good to watch at times didnt produce results and we copped some absolute beltings. He was sacked and we ended up with Hird and the rest is history. Our biggest failure has definately been our talent id and recruiting. With this latest saga it will be light years before we win another flag. And since our last flag only 7 clubs have won the flag and thats all that counts, anything less is a failure so plenty of other clubs worse off than us in that regard

LOL

Didnt have an issue with it then and still dont. Was within the rules then and I cant see why the practice is still not allowed.
Was a warm GF and they came out after half time and ran all over us, we ran out of puff about 10 minutes into the third quarter. Definately was a factor, wished our fitness staff was as advanced as theirs at the time

When clubs at all levels build a "culture" with talk about being selfless, showing yourself and your team mates respect, knowing when "it's your turn to go", leaving your ego at the door for the betterment of all etc etc it's pretty ******* rich to think Hird could come back and coach at AFL level, any level, for that matter.

Bit rich to make strong comments when no one is 100% sure of the goings on behind closed doors. The info we get is driven from media outlets with agendas. If the info went to a pro-Essendon reporter early on as opposed to Caroline Wilson, Hird/the Club may have been painted in a different light. It's all about agendas folks!
