I'm angry just watching that. I can't imagine how disgusted I'd have been had I been at the ground.
Considering, it's amazing there weren't more dramatic scenes from players/supporters following that clash.

Weak.

In what way?

A majority of them ran in to let Grocke know what he did was not good enough...

I thought they showed discipline to not retaliate to the point of stupidity but to let them know they weren't happy...

WHUFC,I was more suggesting there could have been a very fiery response, that could have seen the situation get really nasty.

Stuff discipline he should not have left the field unless he was bleeding, it may just be a game but you never let something like that happen to a mate without making them pay whether its on the field playing sport or in a pub on a Friday night

It's sad it took a first game whose four foot nothing to be the first dogs player over there.

Could you imagine the gowans, Quinno, Joshua coulter, Elijah ware letting that go a footy field

Same 4' nothing first gamer who ran in to contest the ball on the boundary line minutes before who had Grocke coming the other way. He had eyes only for the ball but Grocke lifted his. Grocke's a gutless ..... I'll leave it there. Just watched the vision of the incident. Still can't believe it happened in today's game. Thought Paul Thomas did a great job defusing the tension. Think the incident had a huge bearing on where the game went after that. Eagles kicked 4 or 5 goals from that point and then basically game over.

My thoughts are with Brad Symes and his family.

Sickening collision, Grocke in a misguided attempt to spoil the ball, both feet off the ground, hits Symes directly in the head with a raised elbow / forearm, with the resultant collision knocking Symes flat and spinning Grocke about 360 degrees. Possible motivation being the previous incident. Malicious, well the interview may draw intent out, but it looks like it from the video footage.

Grocke's eyes never once left Symes to even attempt to look at the flight of the ball. Intentional.

Symes has been cleared of any fractures, just nursing a very sore jaw and a concussion.
Still weighing up whether to continue or not due to his history with concussions.
Good news that there's no breaks though, wish him well and hopefully there's no repercussions with his knock to the brain.

Thanks for the update wedgie. Symsie is a champion player and bloke, I hope he can fully recover.

Agreed, the most important thing is Brad's health. Am glad to hear he is not as bad as first feared. You would not find many nicer guys on or off the football field, a true champion of the club.

That incident was 20 years ago, the game has been cleaned up a lot since then so you would expect the penalty be to be about double that.

It won't be though, I'm guessing his suspension will put him one game short of a life ban whatever that number is.
If Symes jaw isn't broken does Groecke get a lesser penalty or is it the action we are penalising not the outcome?

Good comment, agree that it looked in the contest rather than late as has been mentioned.
However, can't see anything than it was pretty blatant and malicious - was a reasonable pass, pretty obvious how the play was going to unfold, and Grocke was in the open, not caught amongst players trying to jostle for the marking contest. Even if he didn't have retaliation in mind, still had plenty of time and space to pull out if he found himself approaching the contest, whereas I thought the Kane/Gallagher incident from 2012 mentioned on one of the threads was partly caused by Kane finding himself in a bit of an awkward spot with the way the ball came in (still deserved a holiday, mind).

Agree with others that it would have to be around 8 weeks.
