Six Quarter trial matches? What's the point?

I have a drawer full of numbers thanks, some are only part numbers though.

It's most useful when one side hasn't got enough fit blokes to play 2 full games. You can either give some guys a half or you can give 32 blokes a full game without asking some to play a lot more. Friday nights don't suit everyone and often a few blokes have a cricket final the following day and don't want to get hurt so getting 2 full sides can be tough.

It's not an improper fraction either.

We played six-quarter trial games this year, mostly due to cricket or other general unavailabilities of players. Against United, we had 32 players in an A/B Grade, and basically all played 4 quarters. Worked out fine.

I've never got the whole 6 quarter concept, it's aqn improper fraction to begin with and I don't really see the point.

Thoughts anyone?

Time issues is a cop out. If you have time to play 6 "periods" you should have time for an extra one each game. Also, if crickets the excuse, how often does a game of footy get played on the same oval as cricket on the same day? Never.

We played Rosewater on the weekend, and coz it was the Showdown that day, we started the Bs at 10, the As at 12 and still had full games, including time on in the As, done by 2.15 and people had heaps of time to get to the Showdown. Its called time management.

6 "quarters" is pointless.

Ingle Farm 'C' played Hope Valley 'C/D' in a 6 period match last Friday night.

They had basically two full squads, whereas Ingle Farm only had around 35 players, so 6 quarters worked well.

Also the game starting at 7pm being a night game, 6 periods meant decent game time without going too late into the night.

It serves a purpose, get over it LM

The length of a trial should correspond to the diameter of the ground at it's longest point divided by pi.
