Six Quarter trial matches? What's the point?

Postby Lightning McQueen » Mon Mar 31, 2014 11:36 am

I've never got the whole 6 quarter concept, it's aqn improper fraction to begin with and I don't really see the point.

Thoughts anyone?

3 quarters for the Bs, 3 Quarters for the A's .

Time efficiency generally.

Correct, at times it can be difficult to fit 2x full games in, where as 6 quarters gives everyone a decent hit out

It's most useful when one side hasn't got enough fit blokes to play 2 full games. You can either give some guys a half or you can give 32 blokes a full game without asking some to play a lot more. Friday nights don't suit everyone and often a few blokes have a cricket final the following day and don't want to get hurt so getting 2 full sides can be tough.

It's not an improper fraction either.

They should just play shorter quarters. I see some clubs swap their players over after the 3rd stanza, some start dribbling them through the 3rd, I just think it's pointless and not a true sreflection on the trial.

Don't play full length quarters then! 15 minute quarters, get a few B's to alternat in the later game.

Sorry but there is no such thing as 6 quarters, I thought even you'd kow what I meant but then again it wouldn't instigate an argument.

Ground scarcity is generally less of an issue during Football season what with cricket not being played and all.

What would only playing 15 minutes a quarter accomplish that 6 quarters doesn't? Only thing is the players don't get the last 7 or 8 minutes in a quarter, which I wouldn't think was a great preparation.

Still struggling with numbers that aren't integers, eh? I'm sure year 5 maths will come back to you soon enough.
