people like you ARE NIMBYs.

Plenty of others seem capable of rational thought though. On both sides of the argument.

You seem to be missing the point. He was the one complaining about people whinging on here and saying we shouldn't be. You are right it is a forum so all us NIMBY's are allowed to post what we like. For someone who doesn't like whinging you sure spend a lot of time on the whinging thread.

Bennymacca and the other pro-reservists gets to determine the parameters of the debate Cennals, haven't you figured that out yet?

If they don't like your point = whinger and NIMBY. If they do = they kindly grant you the status of rational but incorrect. Again, their support of the concept has absolute NOTHING to do with their AFL allegiances, its a completely selfless and progressive viewpoint.

Watch their progressive stance vanish if for example Westies alligned with Essendon and became their reserves.................

No, it's just that some people actually come up with reasons why they might not like it. Not just that I hate the crows or port so therefore it is bad.

And for the record I am not pro reserves, I am still on the fence tbh. As I have said before it feels weird to have two sides I support in the same comp, and would prefer to have an AFL reserves comp. But I am definitely pro "the sky hasn't fallen in, and probably won't"

I hate the AFL franchises for what they have done. No respect for the competition that created them at all. Driven by their own self interests and screw anyone that gets in our way.....

If you think this is the gist of the anti-reserves argument you have completely missed the boat.

I didn't say that I said that some people have that viewpoint. There have been plenty of very good arguments made, I don't need to repeat them, but they have changed my viewpoint already

The most significant one being that a young crows supporter now has no reason to also casually follow another sanfl club, which will hurt the competition in 10 years when they could be financial supporters of an sanfl club but might not now

And you're still on the fence? Why? Simply because a reserves team is good for the Crows?

Isn't that 'who cares as long as it is in my backyard?'

I don't think anyone on here has ever said they don't like the idea because they hate Port and the Crows. You are really clutching at straws there. Most people have rational reasons they don't support it.

Would be interesting to see what the crowd numbers are like in the power bye week, because it didn't really seem to affect the crows reserves numbers

Centrals are in better position win loss wise at the same time last year but their crowds are down

I never thought of Centrals as a big crowd puller anyway. Not in the same category as Norwood and Glenelg. The bays have been a basket case for a couple of years now so you can't use their current form as a reason for a downturn in attendances this season.
Norwood is fair point though. From premiers to poetical spooners inside 1 year, you would expect crowds to drop off but that should have been compensated by Sturt's upturn in fortune.

Eagles were there or thereabouts last year like this year but you would expect a big upturn in Port attendances which hasn't happened. Apart from Norwood, big crowd losers this year would be North.

Norwood, Glenelg, Port, Sturt and North usually pull in the crowds.

West, Eagles, Central and South don't.

No not up there with Norwood, Glenelg and to a lesser extent Sturt, but held our own especially during successful times and finals. Combination of less success, downturn economically and now the reserves issue have served up the perfect storm.

NORWOOD
This is the way I see it
My team won the last 2 SANFL flags
But finally losing players to the AFL teams has taken its toll
Then Norwood lost its super performing coach
Norwood is more or less a skeleton remnant of the Bassett days

B GRADE INVADERS
Now we have an AFL invader in the comp destroying the opposition
Between the 2 AFL B grade invaders , they have taken a lot of talent from every other SANFL club
So no other A Grade SANFL club has AFL players dropping back
This means the talent of the 8 SANFL A grade teams is arguably at its lowest off all time this season

PRODUCT
Now I'm asked to fork out $14 to watch these games
Nah, no value for the dollar anymore, not for an eroded product
I have my Norwood seasons pass , so will venture to some of my clubs games
I also used to watch about 10-20 neutral games per season
But I will very rarely ever go to these games now

STANDARD
In essence the AFL has eroded the SANFL
The SANFL is more or less a feeder comp for the AFL
there are no long term champs and superstars in the comp
The SANFL was once a step away form the AFL in the 1980's
Now it is a step ahead of Amateur League

PAST
I am glad to have followed this comp since the late 60s
I've had great entertainment
I enjoyed being a passionate supporter

NOW
I watch and follow the SANFL
But the passion and the parochialness is abated

Poor crowds ???
Well its now minus one more often because of me

Great recap. 9 borrowed 'top ups' for the Crows on Saturday night. And people still argue their inclusion has boosted the comp..

I don't have anything handy regarding the weekly combined AFL/SANFL matches, I thought I had something from 1991-2006 at least. However, I can tell you the highest SANFL weekly attendance is 76.153 in Round 3 1968
