Interesting comments on the We Are Port Adelaide Facebook page, saying that "Norwood are leading the charge" to change the port reserves structure next year and have no games played at Alberton Oval. I think it's funny, you have half the idiots bagging Norwood saying you'll never be as good as us and you're just looking after yourselves (Gee maybe someone should look in the mirror!) and half bagging the league saying it's a small pond, irrelevant league (Maybe you just p!ss off from it then). The arrogance and nerve of most port adelaide people is amazing. Personally it doesn't bother me them playing at Alberton, i'm more interested in evening up the top up players and trying to maybe increase funding to increase the salary cap but it is funny how some are saying it's irrelevant but also saying it's terrible if they wont have games at Alberton....

Question.

Would an increased salary cap actually improve the standard of the other clubs? Is there a pool of talent out there that these clubs don't have access to?

I can see it improving depth as there might be some fringe league players that won't go to the country anymore but would it be enough to see lots of Victorians come across?

Not sure increasing salary cap is the answer

Of course it would, even if it as you just said allowed clubs to retain more players then lose them to country footy and depending on the amount allow clubs to gain a couple more quality players from interstate, easily it would be better for the league, pretty obvious.

Wrong, a salary cap increase will put more financial pressure on clubs. It is not worth pursuing, at this point.

Not if it's funded by the SANFL. This is the discussion I had with an ex-Magpie player and coach last week. He said the only solution is to do that or to kick Port and Crows out of the competition. Even though he is a Magpie man he agreed that how it is now is detrimental to the league and something needs to be done.

Nope, wrong, if you read what i wrote, get more funding for the salary cap, the new teams can pay for it or the league.

Interesting perspective. Under that model, a salary cap rise might help.

The same collective who could see what is in the future after those 6 uneducated greedy fvcks who allowed this and who apparently are best placed (insert "pressured") on behalf of those fat cat cvnts on the Commission to destroy a 100+ year comp.

Yep the reserves comp as a whole almost appears to be an under 18 comp now.

Within 3 years the SANFL will decrease the salary cap sighting struggling SANFL clubs as the reason as this will ensure the SANFL becomes under 23 comp with a smuttering of mature aged players at each club looking for one last AFL crack.

Playing 50 SANFL games will be seen as a big milestone game

Yep, throw in greater drawing / retention power against the cashed up ammo clubs as well.

you do realise that statement was made when it looked like PAFC would get rid off the magpies altogether and just have 1 team in the SANFL. I would say everyone in the club had his same point of view on the matter.

So everybody at the PAFC agrees that "It's never been one club and that was just a ploy to get the maggies supporters on board with the Power", or "A power reserves team will be a team full of blokes not playing for the prison bars" etc etc etc. Anyway, I shouldn't have taken the bait 8)

That post by Summerton was removed/deleted within hours of posting it - unfortunately for him, other people had taken screen shots of it & posted it for themselves. Not sure he actually believes that now.
To be fair, I know his family have been close to the PAFC for many years & I would understand his 'back down' now he was offered the Captaincy of the Club he (& they) love.

His whole point though was that they're not really the same club anymore...
