Fans Weekly Wash Up Summary Thread

Postby johntheclaret » Sun Apr 06, 2014 7:44 pm

How about a weekly wash up thread from a fans prospective. I'll start Round 1

1. Norwood v Port Adelaide. Good to get a chance to see the 1st game on TV all be it Youtube. Wonder what all the fuss was about now with Port. Just goes to show trials really mean nothing.

2. Glenelg v Sturt. Love him or loath him, Duldig knows where the big white sticks are with another 6 goal game.

3. Eagles v Centrals. Grocke tries to take Symes' head off with an elbow to the head that was so late it was almost in a different quarter. Symes may never play again, no doubt Grocke will.

4. South v West. Great all round team effort with 10 different goal kickers and a pretty even spread of player stats. If they could only kick straight it could havew been a 20 goal thrashing.

5. North v Adelaide. O'Keeffe was sensational. Despite players like Johnston and Callinan up front, Adelaide couldn't get a sniff and the game was over as a contest by 1/2 time.

Norwood v Port: Pleasantly surprised by how well Norwood started the season against (IMHO) quality opposition. If Poet had the luxury of running with that same 21 regularly then (imho again) they'll easily win more than they lose. Unfortunately for them, as has been discussed countless times, injuries through the 2 grades makes that next to impossible. Think they'll square their ledger this coming weekend.

Glenelg v Sturt: Sturt looked switched on and on the same page with a good mix of size and pace and of course having a 6 goal full forward is a handy piece of the puzzle. The Bays I would imagine will be a work in progress as the new coach implements his style whilst trying to remove some ingrained bad habits. Expect they'll improve but the question is how long will it take? The club is banking on increased attendance this season so they would want to avoid a lousy start.

South v West: By all reports South are really enjoying the freedom of a modern style of footy away from the man-on-man grind Fuller used to insist upon to play some attractive and high quality footy. Not the end of the world for Westies with some quality cattle to return.

Eagles v Central: Sounds as though the Dogs didn't take full advantage of the scoring end in the 1st quarter after getting out of the blocks early, and the Eagles took charge over the remainder of the game with the Dogs attempting to play catchup. Game remembered for a disgraceful incident.

North v Adelaide: Comfortable win for the Roosters as expected against a depleted Crows outfit. North seemed to continue on with the free flowing form of 2013 that comprises a strong backline with a good mix of pace and physicality across the ground. O'Keefe looking very impressive. Adelaide like Port should improve the more they play together, though the clubs injury issues don't appear to be improving anytime soon.

All bar the Thursday night game opinions were formed via the Recovery Session and discussions with neutral attendees, so I might be off track.

Overall I don't think it provided anything to change my opinion of the season, in that all clubs can likely field a best 21 that's quality and capable of winning, but fortune with injury and suspension is going to be required as all clubs will struggle for depth.
