2014 IPL Season

Postby Gozu » Wed Apr 23, 2014 12:23 am

The IPL season started about a week ago, not on FTA TV again (not sure if on Fox) but as usual all the games are live on YouTube for anyone that's interested. Most of the games start at like 11:30pm each night but Fri/Sat/Sun are the double-header nights and the early games start at 7:30pm so might take a look this weekend. Glenn Maxwell has hit two big scores already perhaps justifying his $1 million price tag. I see Shaun Tait has been cut loose by Rajasthan and hasn't been picked up by another team.

Aussies in the IPL this year:

Ben Hilfenhaus, Chennai Super Kings
John Hastings. Chennai
Nathan Coulter-Nile, Delhi Daredevils
George Bailey (c), Kings XI Punjab
Mitchell Johnson, Punjab
Glenn Maxwell, Punjab
Shaun Marsh, Punjab
Chris Lynn, Kolkata Knight Riders
Pat Cummins, Kolkata
Michael Hussey, Mumbai Indians
Josh Hazlewood, Mumbai
Ben Dunk, Mumbai
Shane Watson (c), Rajasthan Royals
James Faulkner, Rajasthan
Steve Smith, Rajasthan
Brad Hodge, Rajasthan
Kane Richardson, Rajasthan
Mitchell Starc, Royal Challengers Bangalore
Nic Maddinson, Bangalore
David Warner, Sunrisers Hyderabad
Aaron Finch, Hyderabad
Moises Henriques, Hyderabad

Glenn Maxwell has been a monster so far. 279 runs in 3 hits striking at 212. Was pretty widely derided, particularly in India, for the $1M price tag and "big show" nickname not long ago but he looks a steal right now. 95 from 43, 89 from 45 and then tonight 95 from 43 again. Only thing he's not done is actually go to 100.

Total chaos tonight. 0/121 and 6 overs left to get 50 to win. Watson comes on, 3/1 in his over. Next over, hat trick off 2 legal deliveries (stumping off a wide) to lose 6/2 in 8 legal deliveries.

Earlier in the game when Watson was batting, the bowler pulled out in his run up, then went again. Some debate whether it's cheating or clever.

4:40 shows the above incident.

Interesting one, I guess it's legal but sort of falls into that grey area of the spirit of the game.

Wow that's real interesting.. I dont know if i'm impressed or not, I mean he didnt exactly pull out of bowling, he just changed the way he approached the crease on delivery.. is it any different to a batsman switch hitting?

Would've made things very interesting if he bowled Watson though!

Mal would be happy who how his mate maxwhirl is going.

Say whatever you like about him but he is clearly the best T20 batsman in the world at the moment.

Hopefully he can follow the same path as Warner and turn that into successful long form batting. Because if you can hit the ball that well you have the talent to play any form of cricket, as Warner has shown

Saw that on the news, disgraceful by Starc, Pollard had every right to do more than throw his bat

Bollocks.. Starc beat him with a good bouncer, then at the last minute Pollard pulls out - what a load of horse shit, could be wrong but to me I reckon it was a deliberate ploy to frustrate Starc.

I get sick and tired of seeing batsmen pull away, I have no issue if the bowler is early in his run up, but when he gets to the crease that's bullshit and I have no qualms with him delivering it.
