Herald Sun Team of the Century

Postby bennymacca » Tue Apr 29, 2014 12:53 pm

The guys at the herald sun have decided to reboot the team of the century and have a look at guys from the modern era that might fit into the team.

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/m ... 6898629222

From a south australian point of view, I really think they could have found room for Gavin Wanganeen and Andrew McLeod. If wanganeen played out his carreer at essendon im sure he would have been included. McLeod's lack of a brownlow might put him a step behind wanganeen but he is also easily one of the best players ever not to win a brownlow. The fact that he doesnt have one and shane woewodin does is one of the all time travesties in the AFL.

I also think the last few years of Chris Judd's career has tarnished his reputation somewhat, I think we forget how dominant he was back in his prime at West Coast. If you look at his record compared with say greg williams, it stacks up pretty well.

Judd isn't fit to shine Diesel's boots. Wowedin was brilliant in 2000 and deserved his medal. One day we will agree and you will faint with shock. :)

No offence, how does Jesaulenko get a gig? Was it because of mark that everyone knows him for?
3x leading goal kicker and 444 goals in 279 games, i'm sure there are plenty with much better records than that

I stole them from wikipedia so they may not be 100% complete, but you have to admit those records stack up pretty well against each other.

click on their revised list. They have Ablett Snr, Carey and Lockett into the team. They do still have him on the bench, but yeah, perfect example of a flashy player that took a famous mark and now every victorian commentator loves him.

I ask once again, McLeod or Wanganeen ahead of him on the bench? surely.

Listing awards that were unavailable to Diesel does not make Judd a comparable footballer. If I had to pick which one I wanted in the middle for my 'super side' it would be Diesel every time. His football brain was second to none. Don't get me wrong I hated the sniping prick but he was one of the best footballers I've ever seen.

I reckon Cousins has Judd covered, let alone Williams.

Also showing a bit of knowledge. His mark was a ripper and he was better than average but not IMO worthy of such an accolade as Team of the Century honors.

Another one that would get more accolades if he lived in Victoria. Not exactly underrated or whatever but compare him to james hird for instance, similar sort of player but better in almost every way.

I agree with you.

I'm definitely biased about McLeod but I think he should most definitely be on one of those half back spite

Wayne Carey should be CHF in the team without doubt IMO

And both Senior and Junior Ablett's and Lockett should be in there too.

Wouldnt mind knowing how a man with 1299 goals to his name cant get a gig on the interchange at the very least....
