SANFL State Squad possibles

Postby SANFLnut » Sun May 04, 2014 2:01 pm

Official squad won't be too far away, but I thought I'd have a go first.

Midfielders will create the most debate as many clubs have their better players go through there. My squad:

Key forwards: Ainger, Wundke, Coad, Eddy
Other Forwards: Ryswick, M.Evans , Phillips, Silverlock, Mcintyre
No 1 Ruck: Kurtze, Baulderstone
2nd Ruck Fwd: Brooksby or Dawe
Back line: Mcguiness, Thomas, Miles, Raymond, Caire, Beard, Bradley, Collier, Williams
On ball: Powell, Boyd, Kirkwood, Tambling, J.Allen, Cross, Liddle, Schmidt, Tuck
Wing: Thiele, Campbell, B.Kane, Beech

35 there. Any obvious omissions from your club? Anyone on this list not get a game in your view?
Most of these are seasoned performers that I'd trust to represent our comp properly.
No Crows or Port players selected and no recruits that didn't play SANFL last year.

From a selfish point of view I hope none of our players are selected for this mickey mouse game. We need to worry about getting our own side playing well and the players could do with a week off. Baulderstone and KMac would enjoy the rest

Not a true SA v VIC match.
Its just a pissing contest between the SANFL and VFL so they can claim to be the best comp outside the AFL, to make it worse its not even SOO, how many of SA's squad are Victorian or not even from SA?

I see it as similar to the state games before SOO started in the late seventies.

From a Norwood perspective Baulderstone, KMAC, Bode, Panos and Phillips are the standouts.

Considered Bode and Panos. Think there are better mids than Panos in my squad. Toss of a coin between Bode, Raymond, Caire for me.

Well it's SA v Vic, state v state. Always good to beat the Big V. Surely it's different to playing Qld?

Ryswyk should not be in there.

Von Bertouch (eagles) should at a minimum be included in the initial squad. Has been playing top footy since late last year and has not been beaten all season. Probably the second best CHB at the moment.

Batley would also be an option.

Just as in the "good old days" there won't be any Central players in the state team. The current team reminds me too much of the dark days BP (Before Premierships), they are probably even worse than those days.

I reckon I'd pick Miles to play CHB, Mcguiness to play as third tall to intercept mark a lot, plus a genuine full back who is good from the square. Beard and Von Bertough are more suited like Miles at CHB rather than deep.

Miles, Campbell, Shannon and perhaps Ryswyk are the only players I would contemplate from North.

I noticed someone mentioned Thiele from North. His use of the ball is very poor. Shannon, certainly and probably Amato would be ahead of him in the pecking order.

If Craig had have played all season he might have been a chance.

Who's the best full back in the comp?
Stephens or Hinge from Sturt, Fields or Crabb at South, Forster at Norwood or Collier at Centrals? Or someone else?

Jarrad, Boyd and Wundke would be certainties I would think. Powell is playing well enough to be included. Would love to see Giuffreda get a chance in a back pocket.
