Ate there about 6 months ago and was reasonable enough - not outstanding but not terrible, typical BWS pub

Seacliff Hotel :

We were booked for 7pm with a group of 12, had a table downstairs on the southern side of the bar area.

With it still being high 30°'s outside I was a little surprised to see the doors out to the deck on the beach side open,a nice hot breeze was filling the packed bar/dining area and every person was either glowing or dripping with sweat, both the ceiling cassette AC units in the dining side were off, yes, off.

Meal orders were being taken on the Northern side of the bar, drinks at the western end nearest the doors where people are coming in and out. I waiting in the walkway ( nowhere else to stand ) with several others for our first round of drinks. 12 minutes later the only person serving drinks gets to me, I grab two pints for me as I'm not sure when I'll get the next, I ask the girl would now be the time to shut the doors and put the air con on? Surly bitch wasn't too pleased about doing anything at all, let alone going out of her way. Mind you if I was there on my own with a mass of thirsty punters I too would be pissed. I reckon they needed 3 or 4 people just doing drinks, they had 1 and eventually got another to make it two serving drinks. Poor management when it was packed on a hot night.

She sort of obliges, I shut the doors and she got the ac's on. Little that they would now do given the joint is packed and it's almost unbearable.

Order our meals, I went the 250g rump with S&P squid ( $29 ) and Mrs Boon goes the Thai Beef Salad ( $19 ). My steak was medium as ordered, if I was really fussy it was a touch over, 5 or 6 nice strips of S&P on top tender and well cooked, Mrs loved the salad that was more than generous and the beef was excellent.

Too many around the table to comment on the other meals.

Big pub that was packed for their 90's music DJ set up stairs, can see it would be a great spot to make an afternoon out of as the view across the road to the beach is as good as it gets. Would have almost preferred to be in the front bar where the doors had clearly been shut all day and the ac on, it was fit for humans to be in there.

Food was better than pub good, but they had let themselves down with the doors and a/c on such a hot afternoon / evening, made it uncomfortable at best in there.

8/10 for the grub, 6/10 for the management not being on the ball with staffing and managing the room.

Sounds about right for my dated visits to the Seacliff, rarely hear anything great about it which usually means it doesn't blow anyones socks off.

The restaurant/bistro made it hard to tell mate - haven't been in the front bar for years, but it was a bit seedy when I last did and from what I hear that's about the norm. Given I haven't been there much prob best not to go on any of that I spose lol
