Moving out of home

Postby RustyCage » Wed Jul 30, 2014 11:49 pm

Slowly getting into the process of moving out of home for the first time, will be 32 by the time this happens. It's made me think about how old others where when they up and left their parents dwelling. Did you move out alone, with mates, strangers or a partner? Little one bedroom unit or bigger house?

At age 18, 21 years ago. Moved into a 3 story house on Main North Rd just up from McDonalds with 5 people in one of the all time great party houses. It had been a brothel before we moved in and we all became significantly stupider for living there.

We were all evicted 3 and 1/2 months later.

Gotta say, courageous move at age 32  good luck. What suburb are you headed to?

Looking like Modbury Heights. I've been wanting to for a while, just thought it wasn't a good move while my work was unstable, so waited for that to pick up.

Why were you evicted?

I moved out of home at 28, into a small two bedroom unit rental with my wife.

Congratulations on making the move, Rusty!

Because we deserved it. Partied several times a week, had massive parties. Trashed the place and had the cops there regularly as we would piss of both the second and third story. It was 383 MN rd. It's now a two story place. Fair to say we were lucky to last 3 1/2 months. Our final party had 150-200 people and was crazy.

Modbury heights is alright and I will admit rent these days is shit so I understand people staying home for longer. When I was 18 my board was $70. My rent when I moved out was $25. No brainer and I had to be closer to town :D

Left home at 18 into College dorm style accommodation for University. Still had meals provided but had to do everything else myself.

Moved out of there at 20 due to the attempted enforcement of strict rules and double standards by staff.

Now house sit an investment property for my parents on a permanent basis.

I was 21. Moved to the Riverland for work. Lived the first year and a bit in a one-bedroom furnished flat which was five minutes from footy club, pub and work.
Bought first house at about 26 when my then-fiancee and I were pretty much booted out of the property we were renting - were told we'd never be able to rent a house in the town again after a party.

Bought with my partner at 22.

Good choice with Modbury Heights RustyCage, we still live there and really enjoy it. 5 mins to TTP, O-Bahn or Golden Grove Village. Plenty of parks and open spaces.

first rented with a mate at 19 in Kensington Gardens - Orient Avenue.

Booted out after 6 months for being behind in rent but probably only lasted that long because I was "seeing" one of the estate agents at the time ;)

Bought my unit at 27 years of age for $79000, and am about to put it on the market for $240k.

Lived in and out of home with the girlfriend ( now wife ) for about 8-10 months then at about 18/19 made the move in together into a rented 3 br house on Airport Road just after my 19th.

The worst landlord ( hey, there's a thread there! ) the world has seen owned the place. He entered the property unannounced one day, I think he thought nobody was home as my car was in for repairs, only to find me and my fairly aggressive rottweiler play fighting in the back yard. The dog didn't know the game had stopped.....he shat himself.
PAFC. Forever.

LOOK OUT, WE'RE COMING!

Moved out when I was 25 to head overseas where I lived for 3 years. Returned when I was 28 and lasted about 2 months before I wanted to kill the old man........hence packed up and moved in with my bro. Took me a further 4 years to save up a deposit for a house.....now have my own pad at Northgate.

Except it wasn't on Campus but the bloody Western Suburbs!

Drove past the joint a couple of months ago and it had closed and up for sale. I bet some developer has carved it up now for housing.
