Round 18 - Glenelg v Port Magpies @ Gliderol (Sat 23/8)

Postby Big Phil » Tue Aug 19, 2014 9:25 am

Top against Bottom in a game that doesn't really mean much for either side, one would think...

Round 18 - Glenelg v Port Adelaide Magpies

Gliderol Stadium, Glenelg

Saturday, August 23rd, 2014

Reserves @ 11:25am

League @ 2:10pm

Broadcast - 88.2FM (in ground only)

The Magpies will want a big win ahead of their week off in the first round of finals...

Is this Alleways last game?

If so, I reckon he will deck three and kick four.

to cover the gap at the ground when there's no mainstream radio or TV

Interesting. Are the club putting it on? If so good on them, never heard of that. Is it dear? Will it just be Big Phil with a walkie talkie?

The company that films the games for the SANFL (Adelaide AV & Sports) arranges to usually take a feed of the TV or radio commentators to go with the vision of the games being filmed...

When there are instances of not enough TV and radio coverage, there are 2 other options. Live Stream, which is still only in a trial phase and equipment is limited (meaning only 1 game a weekend can be done this way) or the in-house frequency...

So, in order to ensure all games have audio coverage, Adelaide AV & Sports have a transmitter that can put out a broadcast of the game within the radius of the oval. You wont be able to listen to the game on unless you are within the venue itself. (I think its range is less than a 1km radius)

Essentially, it is 'In House Broadcasting', utilising a temporary liscence and frequency not being used by anyone else...

So, it's not a new radio station covering the competition or anything like that, just another thing the League are trialling, via their contractor...

No, it is not just a walkie talkie system, either, there is a little bit more technical equipment involved than that !!!!

The costs, which I'm not sure of exactly, would be based on what Adelaide AV charge the SANFL for the cost of the equipment, time and whatever the commentators get paid to call the game...

I think the streaming is certainly the way of the future in terms of broadcasting the non-TV games as radio uses an old Telstra ISDN line system, which is fast becomming outdated and more expensive than these other alternatives...

Interesting times ahead in terms of the coverage of our great competition...

As someone who is blind I am very appreciative of the inground coverage when there is no radio coverage. So is my girlfriend, it means she doesn't have to play commentator! :)

Get on the Bays... I smell a 'tank' in this game.
Don't want injuries to AFL listed players with AFL Finals looming large.

No game matters much to Port Magpies.
