Palmer have back-flipped and now will be staying in TVCA after earlier stating they were going to leave and join MTCA. Will be an interesting meeting in a few week's time.

Not much came out of it. With Palmer staying in TVCA, 9 clubs will again contest the A Grade flag, while at least 8 sides will play in the B Grade.

The league desperately needs umpires. Only had 2 regulars last season, not good when there are 4 A grade games every week.

There was talk of restricting bowlers to 8 overs in one-dayers.

Looks as though there might be a casual T20 comp to be held across 3 or 4 Thursday nights prior to xmas. Could be good fun.

The junior situation is messy. The league is pushing this new “Milo T20 Blast” set-up, which is coordinated by SACA, but they failed to consult the clubs that actually had junior sides last season. My club would have preferred the status quo instead (modified U11s comp) as it suits a wider range of players, but this blast idea has some potential if it means more clubs can field a side.

 AEHCA has 10-12 regulars, with all A Grade, A2s, most Bs and some Cs games having an umpire last season.

This was up from the four regulars the previous season and was due to an exceptional amount of work and recruiting taken on by the league-appointed umpire's coordinator.

Btw, surely there's enough interest in each of these three hills competitions that they could each have a thread of their own this season?

Hmm, was pretty quiet on here last summer. I'm the only regular TVCA poster these days.

As for the umps, yes AEHCA's riches were enviously discussed the other night.

AEHCA was pretty fortunte last year with the Umpire's Coordinator putting in a lot of effort to source new umpires pre-season. I believe ads were ran in The Courier and repeated on the AEHCA website which gathered enough interest.

And when the $110-per-game carrot was dangled, that probably enticed a few too. Not bad coin at all. Not sure how that compares to TVCA or HCA.

TVCA tried the Courier a couple of years ago but didn't have any luck (they left it far too close to the start of the season mind you). Also tried the Barossa paper. I think a few potential umpires are still filling a spot in their club's B Grade due to a lot of clubs in our league battling for numbers. Also pay $110.

Looks like it'll only be "T20 Blast" this season, hopefully with at least 4 clubs putting a team into that. First time the assoc. has run it.

Have 3 clubs with U12s (Gum, Springton, Birdwood), a couple with U10s (Lenswood, Springton). Lenswood, Gum and Birdwood to field their juniors in AEHCA, Springton in a bit of tough spot as AEHCA isn't exactly ideal given their location.

Palmer may still have an U15s in Murray Towns this year, not sure.

I think they ended up putting their 10s and 12s into AEHCA. Might be a silly question but why cant 3 teams play at that level in a comp on their own? or between the 3 of them get 4, 8 a side teams so there isnt a bye

It's a fair question. We had a 3 team U11s last year. A bye every third week wasn't ideal, nor was just playing the same two sides over and over.

There was some last minute talk of having 8 a side. Could be a goer next season.

Any cricketers from your way heading to our comp this year that you know of? You were on the money with Hunter, certainly made a huge difference to Cambrai.

Yep Cambrai have picked up Matt Blenkiron from Angaston, he's about 4 yards quicker than Hunter and 6ft 6. Not sure how much he will play though as he's committed to playing footy at Central Districts next year

TVCA starts this week:

Birdwood v Eden Valley- Based on last season would expect EV to win here. Unsure if either club have picked up players.
Mt Torrens v Cambrai- Visitors should win here. Stalwart Pepicelli a big loss for Torrens.
Palmer v Mt Pleasant/Springton- Reigning champs should open with a win. Springton pulled their B grade last week, but might field stronger A's as result.
Gumeracha v Paracombe- Magpies to win the game the round. Page a significant loss for Gums.

Lenswood have the bye.

So with Round 1 of A&EHCA done & dusted, the results suggest little has changed since last year with all 3 results going as expected.
So is the top 4 already set after 1 round after last seasons bottom 3 all losing in round 1 ?

Woodside comfortably accounted for an inexperienced Creek side who should be considerably strengthened in coming weeks but if they are unable to pinch a game against the 2 Big guns in Strath and Nairne in rounds 2 and 3, an anticipated finals spot will be a tough ask fro 0 - 3 with 9 to play.
Woodside appear a safe bet for finals but its doubtful whether they'll improve enough to take the next step.

Ashbourne are always an interesting team with their English Imports. Overall they havent lived up to expectations or their ability in recent seasons tho maybe O'Connor may excel with the bat after reportedly making 57 in very good style before being run out.
One would struggle to see Ashbourne make the finals tho with the loss of ace spinner Fowlston and maybe Bakridi to the US ???????
Straths batting has appeared to be strengthened on paper, not that they needed it on Saturday with Luke Cousins and Mark Abbott continuing on their merry way from last years run spree

Wooden Spoon favorite Wistow despite only making 75 on the Hill, gave Lobethal a fright after they had moved to 0/45 but then Steve Nettle ran amok as he ripped through them to see them crumble to 6/56 but Lobey steadied to limp past the target to open their account. Interesting to Wimberly back in the A grade line up for Lobey after spending last year in C grade.

Nairne Hammered Ashbourne OUTRIGHT !!! which already basically guarantees them a Top 2 finish
Ashbourne wont play finals

Woodside comfortably accounted for Spoon favorites Wistow on the back of a Dave Collins ton who's showing age is no barrier.

Strath started day 2 as underdogs but their bowlers suffocated the Creeks batting to come away 40 run victors.
Golding a standout for the Creeks with 47 whilst Class batsmen Warren & Dellatore labored for 42 balls between them for a total of
ZERO point ZERO runs between them

These 2 teams face each other again Thursday Night under lights at the Creek in a T20.

Round 3 sees a 2 day Sat/Sun match that could basically define the Final 4 even this early in the season.

Creeks round out their horror draw to start the season with a trip to Nairne.
Nairne should win tho Creeks regularly have had them on the ropes over the years only to grab defeat from the jaws of victory.

Strath play on their home turf for the 1st time this season and should be too strong and experienced for the youthful Lobethal team.

Woodside play host to Ashbourne and should be too consistent for the Bulls.

End of Season Ladder prediction

Nairne
Strath
Woodside
Creeks

Lobethal
Ashbourne
Wistow

Semi Finals

Nairne v Creek at Nairne

Strath v Woodside at Strath

A worrying early trend in TVCA A Grade, with these scores already having been posted in the opening 4 rounds:

25- Springton v Paracombe (13.1 overs)
34- Lenswood v Palmer (25.2 overs)
34- Mt Torrens v Lenswood (14.3 overs)
36- Mt Torrens v Cambrai (21.5 overs)

Plenty of others under 100.
