FC, the resemblance is uncanny.

Do I qualify if I only play four games for the year? Surely reputation counts for something!

I haven't seen a better ruckman than Mitchell Park's Tom Roberts. Slightly undersized though and he probably got a little worn down against Angle Vale as they had Burgess and another man mountain to rotate. Besides that he hasn't really been beaten IMO - but I didn't see the Houghton game.

Simon Stead (Brienne of Tarth) has been very reliable as our fullback this year, he would be close to contention in a team of the year, Mark Schuppan has been good at Centre Half Back and Walscak would be close to leading our BnF off of half back but has missed a few games with gonorrhea or syphilis or something.

Midfield - Chris Bradford. <3

Haven't let him forget that name - serves him right for not getting a haircut in six months. Always does his job out there and is good at directing the back six.

Tom Roberts is the best ruckman in the comp IMHO, but the Angle Vale ruckman would have to be a close second.

Which one was Curyer - number 12? He was definitely a cut above, although he didn't see much action playing up forward - was more effective in the midfield.

Haven't much more to add - I've only just worked out most of the names in our own team, let alone others. Adelaide Uni had a deadly half back, but I cannot for the life of me remember what his number was.

111. Nihill, a ranga as well :D

Just goes to show how even Adel Uni are, not many standouts but they all play there role for the team.

This Roberts lad must be pretty good to be considered better than Schutz

Out of interest, what is it that you think seperates him from the rest?

i saw roberts play on the long weekend for a half..it was a dismal looking game against FUFC with zero intensity from both sides as they went through the motions..mcdonnell just did whatever he wanted at FF with journeyman hyde running amok as well..but roberts was impressive albeit versus an inferior team..i think he would be a real inspirational leader as well and someone the boys will jump out of the trenches with..strong and gets his hand to the ball nicely and then works back when needed..schutz is good to but i havent seen him for a few years now..

Thought id give this a decent crack been flicking through team lists and best players and working out what possie most play from what people have wrote.

F: Smiech(SP) McDonnell(MP) Gilling(HD)
HF: Vanhoren(AV) Nassereddine(SP) Gollan(AV)
C: Bradford(MP) Hincks(SP) Karpany(AV)
HB: Nihill(AU) Schuppan(MP) Walsak(MP)
B: T.Smith(SW) Bondio(AU) J.Currie(HD
R: C.Schutz(HD) Mcmurtrie(HD) J.Davis(HD)
I: Burgess(AV) Jones(SW) J.Adamo(SP)

Wasnt trying to be bias with the on ball brigade but i do think they are the best ive seen.

I didn't see the Houghton game, so not sure about Schutz, but for me Tom's leadership, positioning, skill with the ball and around the ground ability makes him an exceedingly good ruckman at this level.

In D7 you usually get one of these types of ruckman:

1. Tall gumby dude who wins every hit out but cant kick or catch.
2. Tall coordinated dude who can kick and catch but is slow and/or lazy
3. Dude who can kick and catch, can move around the ground but can't win a hitout

It's reasonably rare (in D7) to get a ruckman that can win the hitout, move around the ground and hit targets when he finds the loose ball plus drop back to take a contested mark or two. Would love to find him some backup though as he gets no chop out at all.

I've talked him up too much now, he's going to kill me. Hi Tom!

Yep, even though it's D7 there would still be plenty of players being hidden from the limelight a bit - daresay Varcoe would be one of those.
