It's not quite as simple as that I reckon. On the weekend in one game the commentator bemoaned the fact that one team had given the opposition three goals. Unwittingly, he hit the nail right on the head in regards to how Football is played today.

In the old days it was man on man and whoever created the most goals won. Now it is about set ups which force your opposition to cough up goals. So whoever squeezes the opposition to cough up the most goals wins. I believe that the reason Hawthorn are so dominant is that they have the elite kicking skills to pierce almost any zones thrown up to squeeze goals out if them.

Each year this tactic gets refined a little more, it's not as simplistic as the huddle or the flood anymore. The best coaches like Clarkson...and dare I say
It Simpson are evolving all the time. If you are still trying to play down the corridor you are going to get owned if you are too predictable,. This is what is happening at Port and Geelong I reckon. Co-incidentally, these two teams also don't have a lot of depth.

You guys have depth, I thought you'd be rooted by now with the injuries you've had, the kids have stepped up.............most weeks. Port's 25th to 40th listed players are as crap as anyone's.

We're in a spot with our big men. Mitch Harvey and Mason Shaw have not come along anywhere near what would have been expected, neither have even threatened to push for AFL selection. Obviously Butcher is on his last year on the list and Redden is slowly building again after being thrown in the deep end earlier this year when he was clearly under done.

I think our mid/talls with O'Shea, Clurey and Stewart are sound as far as depth goes and the likes of Young, Ah Chee, Amon, Neade, S.Gray are capable what you would call depth players as small/mid/forwards.

We need one or more of the group we recruited this year Frampton ( 200cm ), Howard ( 199 ) or Austin ( 195 ) to step up quickly as back ups for Carlile, Trengove, Westhoff and Schulz.

With Lobbe, Ryder and I think Redden to be retained on the list we've got ruck stocks ( Westhoff and Trengove obviously ) but our KPP department needs some support.

I think this area is the biggest concern, I like O'Shea, I'd play him in front of any other fringe players getting a gig at the moment. The rest of the players in that paragraph are way off where Port need them to be, perhaps they just need to persevere and keep pumping games into them rather than keep dropping them, I don't think Neade has anything worth bringing to the table anymore, he looked decent early but has been found out.

Having known UK, on and off, for as long as I have, I'm pretty certain he doesn't have an AFL side.
Although, he may have had a fleeting interest in St Kilda or Brisbane as a kid ;)

I think you are getting me mixed up with Royal City DW.

He was the fitzroy/brisbane supporter.

Not me.
