steve smith fined 60% of his match fee for slow over rates, all other players 30%

apparently after all things considered smith was adjudged to be 3 overs down on the over rates, despite only bowling 83 overs on day 1.

Think CA told him that he is not to play any long forms of cricket this season

Why not??

I don't mind this, I remember when the Windies were in their element and we used to get pissed off with them around the 16-17 over per hour mark, the throwing the ball back to the keeper after every piece of fielding irks me too, especially when it's hit to mid off.

The ball should be in the bowlers hand by the time he walks back to his mark, they do it to spinners aswell.

There is no explanation possible that will give it any credibility in my eyes, it's a time wasting exercise that has crept into our game.

I will draw the exception of the first few overs where the keeper is trying to get a feel for the ball, after that it shits me. They have to fit 90 balls an hour in and more often than not they fail, it isn't that hard.

agree entirely. things like it being very hot aren't an excuse either. it is a summer sport. if they want drinks on the field thats fine, but that means you gotta hustle between overs. and given most bowlers come off the field for a rest every now and then too there is really no excuse imo

Still doesn't save any time because the bowler still has to get to his mark. In the age of reverse swing the bowler shouldn't have to worry about shining the ball. That is mid off/on or covers job. Bowler just concentrates on formulating and executing plans to take wickets.

bowlers should get to their mark quicker then...

but i think the most time is between overs and also the setting of fields, and having meetings every other ball

The bowler probably dawdles as he looks back and sees that the ball is still 30 metres and 3 passes away, he'd walk a little quicker if the mid off just threw it to him on his way past.
Just my opinion......................or in whufc's case imho! ;) ;)

that was completely ridiculous

Watching the T20's & ODI's in person you can see that there's minimal disruption when "runners" do a mad dash in between overs and at the fall of wickets to deliver drinks, I was surprised initially that it was allowed but the manner in how they rushed it through made me see it as a positive.

Well when you weigh it all up and try to draw a clear conclusion, I think the nail has been hit on the head right there.

I would agree with you there Mighty. There's no way in the world any of Steve Waugh's or Allan Border's men would be whinging or whining about the weather. They would just get the job done.

Allan Border would've said, "I'll just get a Queenslander to do the job if you're being so soft".

Didn't he bowl unchanged between lunch and tea on Day 2 of the Kiwi Test at Adelaide in 87-88, 45 overs for the innings when bruce got injured halfway through his 7th over??
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!
