Dud world cup already in my book with 1 game a week on free to air, teams playing only once a week and now the hosts and one of the major drawcards having a game abandoned without a ball bowled. Shifting the game to another state wouldn't have been impossible. People will have to have tickets refunded anyway, both teams would have had the same travel issue to deal with and agencies are well equipped to sell 50k tickets in a day or two.

Would love to see future world cups with more teams or have 2 games between teams in the pool stage. Or both. Just got to have teams playing their games closer together at this stage IMHO.

We can relocate a man to walk on the surface of the moon nearly 50 years ago but being proactive about the re-location of a cricket match to avoid abandonment during a World Cup is obviously beyond the realms of possibility

Exactly. Play it tomorrow. Simples.

That's correct. Travesty in my book. I love having the minnows around. So much colour added to a tournament when sides rock up knowing they (probably) won't progress so they just enjoy the games and chances to get beaten by the best in the world. Do we not enjoy the Soccer world cup experience despite knowing our chances of winning are on par with picking up a supermodel at the local? Then there's the games between the minnows that both have circled as the chance to win a game. I just don't think 10 teams will be that interesting. I also don't think it's a true world cup without all nations in the world having a chance. Technically any side can qualify but it just feels like they're trying to ensure the minnows don't progress while keeping that faintest of hopes alive.

Agree but how quick could a curator get a reasonable pitch up in would be a question I guess.

I would also imagine the Australian players and officials, commentators, umpires etc etcwould have been doing a fair few corporate and sponsorship functions prior to the match in Brisbane

Also what kind of availability would there be for such large numbers to hotels Etc on such short notice

Could say an AO be able to a fully function AO for 40k ready in two days, it's obviously requires a fair bit of staff, stock, prep etc etc

Lankans 1/0 first ball and now 2/2 chasing the Afghans 233, think the Afghans are about 40-50 runs short but would love to see them make a good fist of it

Some likely looking types in the Afghan side, definately the potential is there. The big left arm quick is impressive

I wouldn't want to mess with them ... their country has virtually been at war for nearly 40 years and still is in turmoil, but amazingly they can field an international cricket team.

What excuse do the Poms have for being minnows?

One thing that's great to watch is the length the Afghanistan bowlers are bowling with the new ball, they've got the Sri Lankan batsman consistently playing and missing and creating plenty of wicket taking opportunities. It's a combination of not being scared to pitch the ball up and not being experienced enough to hit back of a length to dot a batsman up. It's refreshing to see quick bowlers to pitch the ball up, bowl a good length, encourage the batsman to drive and get some movement in the air and off the seam.

They're pretty good in the field too, putting fellow sub continent sides India and Pakistan to shame with the standard of ground fielding I reckon.
