Glenn BIG show Maxwell

Postby mal » Sun Feb 01, 2015 8:39 pm

The 2014 Australian 20/20 cricketer of the year

Has achieved something no other Australian ODI players have
The only Australian ODI player to have a strike rate of 100+ that have made 1000 + runs

Australians who have scored 1000 runs + ODIs strike rates
1043 [115.76] Glenn Maxwell [need checking if anyone can confirm]
9619 [96.94] Adam GilCHRIST :prayer:
1326 [93.71] James Hopes
5088 [92.44] Andrew Symonds
1796 [90.70] David Hussey

The only player who has a better strike rate ever for 1000+ runs
7937[116.78] Shahid Afridi

Maxwell is also a sensational fieldsman
Improving off spinner

Brilliant limited overs cricketer [strikes at 163 in 20/20 Internationals]
Probably not good enough at Test level , but a very impressive player

Averages just over 30, which is, average. Not good enough for a bloke picked to bat at #5.

Hasn't always batted at 5. Depends on the situations he finds himself going in at most of the time. If he goes in at 3/40 more often than not then it is not good enough, but if he goes in at 3/200 in the 40th over and gets 30-40 from 25-30 more often that not, then it seems good enough to me.

Cricket teams need variety. You lose some reliability and with that career average for that strike rate. Can't have many blokes like that but the Glenn Maxwells of the cricket world are often the difference between a good score and a great score.

Still fairly young but a solid first class average (clearly better than S. Marsh who is 5 years older says something) suggests he's not a flash in the pan.

That's just a fluke to deflect attention away from his failures. Needs to develop consistency and produce under extreme pressure a la Andrew Symonds in 2003. If he failed in that innings I think he would have struggled to get another game for Australia.

Maxwell just needs to find something between his ears and use it. Not have brain fades leaving one on middle.....

There's no denying his ability, no denying it. It's the consistency that needs to be improved upon and maturity to play the right innings at the right time.

His 95 the other day was spot on, just what we needed, his occasional 40 off 20 balls in the last 6 overs is also, spot on and what is required. But the reverse sweep and out first pill when we're 3/90 is not the actions of someone on top of their game.

I hope for our sake that he harnesses all that potential and if he does, becomes the player we all think he can be.

Whether you rate him or not. Glenn Maxwell IS a superstar and one of a small few "X-FACTOR'S" in the Australian side. He will be very important for Australia's chances of winning the trophy.

As an 'X-Factor', he needs to fire more than once in 10-15 digs.

I think he has more than enough talent to be an absolute world-beater, but his constant brainfarts need to be curbed if he wants to be anywhere near consistent.

Gotta laugh at the calls for consistency in ODIs from blokes batting 5-7. Maxwell isnt an opener and like Davey you have to take the good with the bad. I'd have Maxwell in ahead of Bailey every day of the week right now. I read on the weekend that Maxwell doesn't like the nickname 'Big Show' and he doesn't have I disease to the extent of my least favourite cricketer Brad Hodge.

Bout time a few got off his back and gave him a go. He's got a lot of talent and he'll only get better. I think once Maxwell presents a bit more of the bat to the bowler he will prosper. At times he tends to open the face far too early in his innings. I'm sure Boof has mentioned it to him.

Not a fan of being taken seriously I guess. 39 innings, 9 50s. A slightly higher success rate than 1 every 10 or 15. When you remember his strike rate and how often he's asked to come in late to do some hitting, I reckon 1 in 4 is a great rate. Don't forget a lot of those "brainfarts" are often on shots he uses to get that strike rate up towards 120.
