4th Place (End of Minor Round)

Postby JK » Mon Jun 15, 2015 12:59 pm

General consensus is Freo, Swans and Hawks to finish in the top 3, but 4th place looks well and truly up for grabs at the moment. Who's your tip to get the final double chance?

If the pies get a couple of their next four tough games it could be them.

Coll- Bye, Hawks, PA, WC,WB, Melb, Carlton, Swans, Richmond,Cats,Essendon

Going by that, I'd say Collingwood.
Maybe Richmond.

Richmond for mine.

Sydney
Fremantle
Hawthorn
Richmond
West Coast
GWS
Port
Collingwood

I reckon Collingwood, Geelong and Adelaide will all end up on 13 wins, I think the Port vs Collingwood clash in round 15 at Adelaide Oval will be the Pie's game of reckoning, if they can take the points there they are a genuine top 4 contender.

Anyone's guess there hey mate, you could probably only pencil in 5 wins, the other games are very 50/50.

Richmond this week will be tough coming off back to back 6 day breaks against a team that had 14 or so break. No worse than 5-5. But we will need to beat either Sydney,Hawks,or Freo to make the 4.

Just tried to do a ladder predictor. Obviously it is pretty hard to do at this early stage, but i gave it a crack. I didnt bother selecting a margin so the default of 12 points was used for every game.

As you can see though I havent got freo dropping a game for the rest of the season, which is obviously wrong, but I think they will go in as favourites against most of them. If i thought it was a 50/50 game i mostly went with the home team. Probably was a little optimistic with the crows games too.

My reading of it seems to be that Geelong and Port Adelaide will be the ones that shape the finals. Nobody really knows where they are at - are they contenders, are they even finalists? Geelong have been playing well lately but the jury is probably still out. It is further out with Port. They need to have big wins against teams like Collingwood in order to make it.

To me it looks like a massive logjam, with teams 4-12 probably all carrying hopes of finals this year. One of the most even seasons in years imo

Jury might be still out on Geelong but we're a 7 goal better side than Collingwood!
Collingwood have about 4 wins in them, not 7!

Last year, Collingwood won only three of their last eleven games.

Reckon their kids are a year older and better than last year.

Geelong's kids are a bit like collingwood's last year imo. Reckon Gregson, Lang et al, even Caddy, arent quite ready for consistent footy week in week out and I think they will fall off the pace quicker than the pies.

It might rest on the shoulders of Cloke and Hawkins. If either stays in form for the rest of the season their teams will surely make finals and push for top 4

You do realise Geelong flogged Collingwood just over a month ago don't you?

And I bet you havent even bothered to look at the games.

For the crows I have

Hawthorn - Loss
Brisbane - Win
Geelong H - Win
West Coast A - Loss
Port - Win
Gold Coast - Win
Sydney - Loss
Richmond H - Win
Essendon - Win
Brisbane - Win
West Coast H - Win
Geelong A - Loss

That would give the crows 14 wins for the season and 5th spot.

Big games are our games at home, against Geelong, Port (our A game but doesnt really matter) , Richmond, and West Coast.

If we get 4 wins there we will finish 5th. If we drop one we will get 13 wins which could be anywhere from 5th to 9th. Any more and we probably wont make finals given they are all teams around us.

Crows flogged collingwood too. Doesnt mean the pies probably arent a better side at this current moment.

A month ago is a long time in footy. The crows lost by 2 goals to Freo, doesnt mean we arent 2 goals worse than freo, we are more than that.

with bugger all tinkering I can also get Geelong to 5th equal on points with the pies. They could easily grab a top four spot too.

Hawthorn and Sydney have also shown that they can be a bit vulnerable too, so even though I think they should both comfortably make the top 4, if they drop a game to say west coast or richmond it could throw everything out

I think Pies, Cats & Crows have been and are going to be prone to inconsistency for the season. Perhaps the separation between three might well be decided by who has the best run with injuries.

yeah definitely agree with that. Thrown in Richmond, West Coast, and GWS and you have the teams that can possibly make the top 4 if everything goes well, or miss the finals entirely if they have a bad run of form.

Port is a very interesting one. Everyone expects them to start turning it around but so far they havent managed to do so for more than maybe a quarter at a time.

Time is running out for them I would think

I can't see the Crows finishing that high (could be wrong though) - I think they'd be doing well to win 3 of their Adelaide Oval games against Geelong, Port, Richmond, Essendon and West Coast
