There is validity in that, however because we're going to the NFL model, it'll never happen. I'm all for it personally. Having a squad of 50 players would make it more feasible, however purists would say that the standard of the game would suffer because you have third rate players playing games that are marked down as wins.

The NFL model is 'less games, more quality', so it'd take a cultural shift in our thinking to bring this into play. Also, logistically, ground availability would be compromised.

Wow Hurny is keen. :)

Not too many full contact sports play more rounds than 25 or so either, off the top of my head. I wonder if any full contact sports have a longer season than the NRL.

Would also have issues with ground availability, and crowds would also suffer too I would think.

Crowds would suffer for sure, cant see too many rocking up on a tuesday or wednesday night as games would have to be played every day of the week.
TV would compensate for that.
Would be less preseason for the players, im sure theyd rather play games than train for 4 months

Rugby's different again. I prefer Super 15 but only because we get stuff all coverage of the northern hemisphere game.

Less players on the field though, and massive amounts of interchange. Was more thinking of other rugby codes

What about having no interchanges, only subs?
ie once you go off the ground you're out of the game.
Would definitely slow the game down and force players into more stay at home traditional positions.

Then you'd be left with a sub who doesn't get on the ground. No way would a coach use all of their subs during the game leaving them with no replacements for an injured player

Or it would force good footballers that aren't good athletes out of the game.

Scrap it keep, no cap on rotations. Just monitor the runners doing the rotations so that they are not interfering or coaching the play. From a TV point of view you don't notice the rotations anyway

Could you imagine supercoach, you might have 12 subs in your side on any given weekend

Pretty sure the likes of Tony Lockett would be ok under my proposed change, not sure he'd go to well in todays actual game

Yeah because Supercoach should dictate how the overall game is played

I reckon a cap of 80 interchanges and no sub rule is the way to go.

No it shouldn't dictate, but with 300000 people playing and I'd imagine some good sponsorship and exposure for the AFL, The AFL would take it into consideration definitely
