Kurtis Patterson holds the record at 18yrs and 206 days (in 2011), according to cricket.com.au

Reading further, Ian Craig scored a first class double ton at 17yrs old, but not in sheffield shield, but against the South Africans. He was picked for the Test team aged 17yrs 239 days soon after.

Craig was both the youngest NSW and Australian captain, IIRC.
Phil Hughes would also be fairly high in the youngest hundred, as would Archie Jackson and possibly Clem Hill.

11 blokes have made test tons for Australia at a younger age. Seems unlikely that he'd be on any list. Maybe sneak in the top 100.

Good achievement for anyone to make a first class ton. Makes a strong statement about our state's cricket when our captain makes his first shield ton.

Interestingly, Lawrie Colliver produced a stat last season, that showed he had (IIRC) scored more runs at the same point in his career as Greg Chappell and Darren Lehmann.

Plenty of players have debuted as teenagers and made their maiden century prior to their 21st birthday.

The great Doug Walters was 19 years and 2 months when he made 253 against a South Australian attack that included Freeman, Hawke and Sincock. Three test bowlers.

Even your old schoolmate Tony Handrickan made a shield century as a teenager.

In the old days 21 was old to make your first shield century.

Darren Lehmann played one game in 1987-88, the full season in 1988-89 and then made his first century against Victoria in Melbourne in December 1989 whilst still a teenager. He went on to make four centuries that season including a double century.
