I think that's a little harsh, the captaincy probably has forced him to hold more value on his wicket whereas early on in his career his flamboyancy was what put him in the spotlight.
Usman's 98 off 123 was hardly any better FWIW, one of them should have grown some balls a little earlier in the piece.

Some credit has to go to the Windies bowlers who pegged it back well as Australia were in a great position around the 30 over mark (1/157) and when Smith got out it was 1/171 after 34 overs.

Just watched Smith's post match presser and he said they didn't accelerate as much as they wanted to with the bat but ultimately the Windies great start to their innings- 1/74 after 9.5, the result of some sloppy bowling and fielding from the Aussies was the thing that gave the Windies the key to victory.

Good to see Matthew Wade is still acting like a wanker.

His runout of Marlon Samuals was brilliant though.

Seems to have a habit of that......Matador Cup a few years ago, Shield final this year...

That it was, seems to be more adept at picking the ball up off the ground than catching it.

I'm glad you pointed that out, the only part of his presser was on the radio and it was finger pointing the bowlers and poor fielding. 260 odd is not enough at St Kitts.

He also said that they were 20/30 runs short and him or Usman should of gone on to make 120/130.

My brother sent me this earlier

92 Marlon Samuels' score in this match is his highest against Australia in ODIs. This was his first fifty against them after 19 innings. He had previously made two half-centuries against Australia, both of which came in 2001. His average against the visitors has increased from 17.04 to 20.04 with this innings, but it is still the worst among 16 West Indies batsmen who have scored 500 or more ODI runs against Australia. He also picked up his first Man-of-the-Match award in 27 ODIs against them.

West Indies v Australia on at the moment with Australia needing 98 off 80 balls.

WI 8/282, Samuels 125 (134), Ramdin 91 (92), Starc 3/51.

Australia currently 3/183, Smith 59 (89), Marsh 50 (55).

Marsh is finally making some runs! And Boland getting another go is a joke, they seem to love him but he is no good!

The skipper nearly cost us again with his slow batting.

Surely you're kidding? The Aussies won easily, and it can mostly be contributed to the Marsh/Smith partnership - timed his knock beautifully, and left ample time to score the remaining 60 with plenty of wickets in hand.

Don't have to score at a S/R +100 every knock you know..

Rubbish!

That's Maxwell and Co.'s role to score quickly! Had around 9 overs including powerplay to score around 60 runs.. with 7 wickets in hand.. take the game deep.. it was a simple, well timed chase, never in doubt! Won with wickets a plenty and 8 balls to spare

Smith gets out for a quick fire 30 or 40 early though and that chase becomes a hell of a lot more trickier.

Can't agree with you, if you score a ton, you need to score at 90 at least, if you score 70 @ 70 you're a liability to the team in this day and age.
Maxwell scored at 176,, he's too hit and miss to be relied upon to achieve this from ball 1.

He's not there to be relied upon from ball one..

Openers go hard, middle order consolidate and reduce the target, rest go hard at the end when the time presents.

Maxwell, M. Marsh, Wade, Faulkner, Starc - all these blokes can hit the ball and score quickly when needed.

Aussies needed 62 from 50 balls when Smith got out with 6 wickets in the shed - 9/10 you get that easy from there.

Could he have gone at a better rate? Absolutely!
Could his knock have cost the game? Don't be absurd.

Great for Mitch Marsh to make some runs under pressure in a big chase. Shown he's capable just has to start doing it consistently.

A wins a win as far as I'm concerned. If we lost then we look for reasons why and Smith batting too slow could of been one of them, I'm sure he would of criticised himself for it but we won so none of that matters. I tend to agree with Zartan anyway but I see your point LM. Move on to the next match, the final of the tri series tournament on June 26th (the morning of the 27th here).
