yeah but if Brighton is one of those teams, surely they wouldn't be made to start in D7? They'd easily slip into the spare D4 spot

Hackham and Marion would smash div 7 teams. All they would have to do is recruit the better talent from SFL reserves clubs and splash out a little cash. Seriously try putting Salisbury West, Flinders Uni ect against Athelstone, Broadview, SPOC every 2 weeks. They would get smashed by at least 30 goals on their best day, when they have been doing it non stop for 10 years it would be more than 40 goals.I wouldn't be shocked to see them competing well in div 5 within 3-4 years now they finally have some hope. Morphy Parks I reckon would be a good divs 5 side but could push div 3 if they recruit well.

No one would get within 6-7 goals of Brighton on a good day. SFL top end teams right now aren't as strong as they have been in the past but they'd comfortably account for Eastern Park.

Agree. It's commonplace for SAAFL peeps to completely underestimate the strength of the SFL.

Brighton would dominate D4 and Hackham / Marion would be pretty easy winners in D7 most weeks.

Hackham and Marion need to be D6 minimum and Brighton D3 minimum.

Based purely on the trial game at the start of the year, I would agree Hackham would be best suited to D6 - some very handy players and extremely competitive against us despite not winning.

Depth might be a both concern though - their B grade were snot

I'd also say D2 is at its strongest for a long time. Modbury, SHOC, Old Ignatians, SPOC all very good sides.

Histotrically the thought has been d3 to d2 is one of the smaller gaps, in my view its blown out alot the last 24 months

Yeah D2 is too high...

D3 is perfect.

The last time Brighton played Edwardstown they won by 15 goals - in one of their more disappointing seasons finishing 7th.

The current 2nd placed Brighton side would smash D4.

Agreed Jo172.
I've seen a fair amount of country footy over the last 3-4 years and the SFL is miles off the SAAFL.
The Barossa league is clearly the strongest country league in the state by a fair way, followed by the Great Southern and Adelaide Hills (not much separates the standard of these two leagues) and then the SFL a very distant 4th, 5th or 6th. The North Eastern FL, SFL and Yorke Peninsula would be all on a par. Not much separates those 3 leagues. Mallee, River Murray and Riverland after that.
That a pretty fair assessment of the country leagues. The SFL is very, very average other than 2 or 3 sides.

We haven't had a good discussion about standards in a long time.

I'd rate Great Southern better than Barossa Light personally.

Thats the value of opinions everyone can have one. Personally, I would have thought the Barossa league to be 5 or so goals better than the Great Southern, having watched both reasonably closely. Both are very good competitions, as is the Adelaide Hills division 1. All of them are of about the same standard as division 2 of the SAAFL, with one or two sides from each competition being able to play division 1

From what I've seen it is the Barossa, Great Southern, Adelaide Hills div 1, North Eastern, SFL and Yorke Peninsula in that order

Div 3 would be perfect for Brighton and Id expect them to be D2 the season after. Morphy Parks are about par with Edwardstown so Div 4, maybe Div 5 if they want a soft entry.
