Would any SANFL team consider 'John Butcher' next year?

Postby amber_fluid » Wed Jul 06, 2016 1:46 pm

With John Butcher looking to be delisted(finally) and him not being able to be a top up player for the Magpies(I think that's correct), would any SANFL team seriously consider him for next year?
This is a serious question as well! ;)

Depends on what $ he was after.

Currently second behind Eddy in the Ken Farmer race, so yes, I'd imagine clubs would ask the question.
SAFC- 60 years...
StKFC- 58 years..

I think he would head back to Victoria to be honest once he is finally delisted.

Still would any sides be keen on him? I dont know I havent seen him play much in the last few season. I knoe he kick 6 on the weekend but really what else has he done?

Yeah his salary is going to take a massive hit!
How would North or Glenelg or even Norwood fans feel about him playing for them next year as they seem to give him plenty of advice each time they play against him currently.

Injury to Dougal Howard may give him a lifeline through the rookie list.

Considering he can't get a game now with their current injury list, surely he'd say thanks but no thanks if asked if he wants to be rookie listed.

Who needs a forward? Hopefully they have a decent kicking coach to see if Port actually tried to teach him to kick....

Why? This is his 7th year on our list, he's had little in front of him by way of key forward for around 3 of those years, last year Ryder and this year Dixon took his spot as the "other" tall in the side.

Drafted in 2009, let's call 2010 and 2011 development years, so 12/13/14 he really only had Schulz ahead of him. Harvey and Shaw never threatened to take and AFL spot, so for 3 years he had a chance, he had a crack at it.
AFL :
11 - 4 games 11 goals.
12 - 8 games 11 goals.
13 - 8 games 9 goals.
14 - 3 games 2 goals.
15 - 5 games 3 goals.

28 games 36 goals.

SANFL :

11 - 10/16
12 - 2/2
13 - 9/14
14 - 15/32
16 - 12/28

37 games 92 goals.

Since being on our list - 65 games 128 goals. Under 2 goals per game.......that's why.

No need for stats and facts Booney. ;)
That's 2.5 goals a game at The magpies and he did play alittle down back and in the ruck at times.

Looking at those stats he is having his most productive season thus far.

I wouldn't be that bothered if he came to North*. There's a reason Port kept him on the list ahead of the younger Mitch Harvey. Sure his kicking is deplorable but he is a competitor and we had years of watching Nick Gill kicking for goal so we're used to it at North. Those days he kicks 0.4 might just be enough to get us a couple more wins.

*As long as he doesn't bring his brother back to North.
