Out - Mitchell, Lewis

In - Mitchell, Vickery, O'Meara(?)

They haven't lost anything short term as I think Tom Mitchell is a ready made A Grader, O'Meara might be and Vickery shares 98% of his DNA with a potato.

Can't be too of a happy team at Hawthorn. Lose 2 legends of club who were playing for peanuts so that a bloke with zero games in 2 years can get 750k and spud Vickery gets 500k

Couldn't agree more mate. Been a very interesting trade period for Hawthorn and you couldn't say anyone else has made any real waves, not just yet anyway.

Obviously the Gibbs and perhaps the Deledio deal will need a third party so I expect some big moves in the next 24 hours and then a bit of a flurry after that.

What happened to all these senior hawks blokes who took pay cuts because they love the club???

It is being reported that Lewis took a call believing they would be offering him the captaincy, but instead they were sounding him out for a possible move. That's why he is pissed off and his management has sounded out a move

Pretty ballsy getting rid of your best two players of 2016

They ain't hanging around....chance the Hawks fall off a cliff in next couple of years.

Frawley is OK but not worth what they are paying him, Vickery and O'Meara have massive ? marks over their heads, all 3 would be taking 20% of their cap.

I heard the meeting wasn't about moving him on but for him to take a pay cut to get the other players in. Lewis was apparently filthy that he has put in so much for the club and a spud like Vickery comes in on $500K a year. Also heard that the Suns were keen on Lewis, which would have finalised the O'Meara trade, but Lewis picked Melbourne instead.

Lewis trade to Melbourne is conditional on him passing a medical and the Melbourne club doctor has some concerns about some deep stab marks in his back.

Lewis officially asks for trade to Dees. Melbourne looking good for next season, a lot better than they have over the last decade.

St Kilda and Melbourne look likely to play finals next year, and probably north will drop out, but unsure who the other team will be. Going to be another very even season I reckon

Lets hope the bruising on his knuckles from all the jabs to the neck and jaws of his opponents doesn't go against him also...

I'm thinking the same, North definitely out but maybe no one else from the top 7 will follow them. This all depends on injuries too.
Saints and Melbourne both looking good to make the final
The rest:
Freo should be better than last year but they are coming from a long way back.
Suns are still an unknown. Players on the way out (although they haven't seen O'Meara play for 2 years). Having 3 picks in the top 10 doesn't help them for next season unless they have an absolute gun in their academy. Although these kids will probably leave after 3 years anyway.
Essendon are also an unknown with their players coming back. While a year of footy is great for their bodies/injuries, it'll take a few rounds before they can get back into the full swing of AFL footy, recovering etc.
Going on the last few seasons Port, even with Ryder and Monfries back, seem unlikely to play finals next year.
I don't think Collingwood, Brisbane, Richmond and Carlton have the crop or capacity to get to the finals

But this is all a long way out from Rd 1. Still plenty to happen in the trade week let alone during the pre-season.

Hawthorn won 6 games under 10 points in 2016, they won't do that again in '17.

Don't see them being stronger with McEvoy a year older, still no Roughy ( fingers crossed he comes good ) and Hill, S.Mitchell and Lewis out.

Means they'll be relying on Vickery as the tall option and back up ruck for Ceglar if McEvoy isn't in the side.

I can see them dropping to the bottom half of the 8 or further if they have any injuries to the key players.

Bit more playing out in the Hawthorn/Richmond "negotiations" regarding Vickery. Apparently Hawks been summoned to AFL house for 2nd time to explain the deal. Talk they deliberately signed a 2 year deal to get the best compo for Richmond.

Yeah it's dodgey as hell but they will get a slap on the wrist and that will be it.
