Olympians with a football connection

Postby Pseudo » Sun Aug 14, 2016 10:54 pm

Just watching Jess Trengove talking on the box, she referred to her brother Jack at Melbourne FC.

Got me wondering how many other olympians have some football (Aussie Rules) blood in them.

Obviously:
Kyle Chalmers
Emily Seebohm
Erin Phillips

any others?

Right on cue, the topic came up on the marathon commentary ... apparently the "Weightman" lass is related to Dale Weightman.

Alexander Hill, a Loxton boy who won silver in the rowing is the grandson of Malcolm Hill, who played in Hawthorn's first premiership, as well as playing in several with Sturt. In one of those Sturt flags, he was living in Berri at the time and played for the Demons throughout the season and won the Riverland title, before also playing for the Double Blues in a premiership.
Central District ruckman Jason Sutherland replicated this when he also won an SANFL flag having played in a premiership for Berri in the same season.

That show Mitcham's hosting on the Olympics coverage is dire, by the way. He's terrible.
