Well let me remind you ...

Since Magpies became Power Reserves their home game crowds

2014 - 3251pg (3rd - behind Norwood & Glenelg, ahead of Sturt)

2015 - 2861pg (3rd - behind Norwood & Glenelg, ahead of Sturt)

2016 - 2191pg (6th - behind Norwood, Sturt, Glenelg, Central & Eagles, still ahead of North)

2017 - 2722pg (4th (Begind Norwood, Sturt & Glenelg)

Fair to say last 4 years with AFL reserves teams involved the top 4 for crowds have been Norwood, Sturt, Glenelg & Port

Looks like I may have overestimated with 4231 if thats the case. My apologies, I didnt realise history only started 4 years ago in regard to a definition of a Big 4 and the way the Power's figures dropped 2014 to 2016 is very concerning. Down over 1k, youch, have others dropped that much?
Very disappointing figures for the merged club WWT with their consistency at the top in recent years too. They should be comfortably top.

Phil can you show 2013 figures and I'm also interested in how the Crows went from no1 in late August 2014 to not in the top 4 that year, did your figures include finals which would skew the results? Seems a massive drop over 2 weeks.

Running my python script over the crowd figures I have, counting first-named team as "home" and second as "away" in all matches...

2016
The smears average crowd in all matches was 8th largest, ahead of only West and South.
The smears ranked 7th out of 10 in crowd at away matches (over West South and Central)
and 7th in home games (over West South and North. The Clowns averaged 2723 in 2 games as first-named team.)

2015
Smears ranked 3rd in home games, as above...
but 8th in away game attendance (ahead of Glenelg {which came second in home games!} and North). I note that the smears were second-last for much of the season, until the Roosters drew only 1487 to Woodville in the penultimate round.

Incidentally do you have crowd figures from Norwood and Noarlunga in round 7 of this season?

Did a quick scan of crowds this year and it appears the top team the Eagles are bottom of the home match average crowds this year, even below West and not even half of what Norwood have been averaging.

No surprise, alot more appeal going to Norwood with bars and food in the area than the cold expanses of suburban Woodville. Adelaide Oval has changed the landscape for what people want out of going to the footy.

Norwood is a very nice venue. A lot of people I know at the footy these days will attend games at Norwood and possibly Glenelg, but would otherwise not attend away games.

Agreed. For me I enjoy going to the City to see a game of footy and have a few beers and a feed. I also enjoy more so going to my local amateur club having cheap beers and watching a good standard game then mingling with mates and players afterwards. IMO the SANFL is stuck in between and most clubs are going to find it hard to attract new supporters to such suburban areas.

$15 to get in, $6+ beers, $5+ pies and pasties, SANFL footy isn't an affordable option for many people any more.

It's not a cheap "add on" for AFL fans who go to Adelaide Oval fortnightly and spend some of their disposable income there.

It's downright outrageous for amateur league followers who get in for free and can take a 6y in their own esky if they wish.
PAFC. Forever.

I'd rather pay $6+ beers at the SANFL ($7.50 WED PINTS yesterday at prospect) v $6+ 375 ml cans/bottles at the SFL post game this year at the matches I've been to.

Beer price more than matches the increase in standard and enjoyment (includes my visit to Norwood Oval in May)

Better footy and atmosphere IMO at the SANFL. This after I've paid for my season membership to Glenelg games that I can't all attend.

However $5 beers at the GSFL.....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Get yourself into the RSL when at Prospect. $5.00 cans of WED and HSD. I was more enamoured by the $6.50 Dark Ales though :drinkers:

Thanks Scott great work.

Good to see South crowds up on last year hopefully that continues to grow & we might crack back into the Big 4.

What's going on at the Eagles big drop off................

Interesting that the Home Crowd averages for 4 clubs:
South 1,840
West 1,746
Eagles 1,728
Adelaide 1,348
...are actually lower than the lowest Total (home and away) average crowd.
South 1,877

Sides that play those 4 venues in the second half of the year might find their overall numbers come down.
P.S. Did Adelaide play a home game this year?

Surely you remember the reserves showdown from earlier in the year? Adelaide hosted Port at their spiritual home of Woodville Oval. I believe the canteen ran out of many items.
