Was he with an opponent which he is allowed to do?

Fair call, I may have overlooked where he was standing just before play on was called.

I just recall the camera angle changing when Dixon had begun deviating to his right to take the kick, and Duncan was just about in a position to lay the smother.

He may have been manning an opponent however, which you are correct in saying he is entitle to do.

The still shot that is being circulated shows a player clearly encroaching the 10m exclusion zone, but Dixon was a bit cheeky there, deviating towards said player to try and attract the 50.

How about Dixon worry about kicking the ball in the allocated time instead of trying to attract a 50m penalty.

That was conveniently missed.

Show the footage, not the still shot

So you think Duncan was more than 10m away from Dixon when play on was called?

If Charlie didn't take a Brett Lee run up then I think he would've been.

Not sure I have ever debated that fact, Amber.

However, if people are going to tow the "letter of the law" ruling regarding the 30 seconds (which was correct), then all I have done is debate the adjudication of the 10m exclusion zone.

Has anyone actually watched the replay to see if the players did enter the 10m zone?
They were definitely quick to react when the umpire called play on.

Watching on TV last night they did appear close to 10m ;)

I have just watched the replay on the fox footy website and you would seriously need a tape measure to say the Geelong player was inside the 10 metre exclusion zone.
It was line ball for mine!

At the risk of dragging up last night again nobody has mentioned the Charlie play on call did exactly what the rule was designed to do. Port are up by 3 points with bugger all time to go, he was always going to take up the maximum time available and push it to the limit, He dared the umpire to call play on and he duly obliged. He got caught out and port paid the price. Imagine what the umpire would have copped from his boss if he had of allowed another 5 seconds, he wouldnt umpire AFL again this year.
