Junior reserve players at Central District

Postby whufc » Wed Sep 27, 2006 2:24 pm

With many young Central players leaving the club in recent years for what they percieved us unfair treatment at the selection table. (eg, Krieg, Coulter, Butler, Norsworthy, Kellett, Levy and others i've forgotten) I would like to congratulate Brad Currie who is going to play in his third grand final barring training misshap. The man has played more than 100 reserves games over 6/7 years and was dropped for the grand final twice. He has persisted and is an integral part of our fine dynasty. It is becoming an era of spoilt juniors at Centrals who believe they deserve something for nothing. I hope the next crop of juniors choose to take Currie's path rather than the easy option.

My dad coached him in under 9s rep teams, I was in under 14s.
I'm now 29 - so I'd guess 25.

He played juniors at Salisbury with my younger brother, making him 27 this year.

A pity that some have bigger egos then ability. A bit like Buckley leaving Brisbane for Collingwood for " a better chance to play in finals". If only he'd stayed, he'd have a nice collection of medals by now.

Cornes was interviewing Roy Laird the other night and asked him "how long has this Currie fellow been playing"? Roy replied "he played his first final for Us in 2000. I don't think that Cornsey takes too much notice of the SANFL these days.

I think you will find, the same thing is happening at North Adelaide. The Grocke brothers, John Pratt and Cameron Staples all left looking for other opportunities this year. Dont be surprised if a few more North reserve players are playing at other clubs next year. And good luck to them. Hopefully, North supporters dont whinge about this for years like Bulldog fans.

Whinge? I think it's more a giggle at North running our second reserves side around.

Yes, extremely well done to Brad on that achievement! His form lately has been the best of his career to date as well. Another who deserves some praise for staying is Adam Switala who persisted after being dropped for at least one Grand Final. Well done, Adam and Brad.
Peter, seems like only one person here whinging and he is not a supporter of the mighty Dogs. While the guys who are staying are winning flags, we don't need to really worry about those who are leaving. *smiles*

I know for a fact that North tried their darndest to get Swooper to play for them.
He stayed on.

He's played in only one flag and should've played in three (dumped for 04, couldn't make it back into the senior side after injuury last year), so flag for him would excellent.
