Re: The never ending No AFL in the SANFL whinge thread

One big gripe with SANFL Club members now is that that don't feel that being a member actually gives them anything.
f

There's a big shiny thing in the trophy cabinet at Oxford Terrace, Unley that paid for my membership of the SFC a thousand times over! :D

Re: SANFL Club Finances

Part of the turnaround has been attributed to heavy cost cutting, why could these costs be found in 2014 but not previous years?

Why are Sturt the only SANFL club with its debt guaranteed by the SANFL? They never assisted any other club when they have asked for this support.

I'll get back to you ...

Re: 2014 Retirements & 2015 Player Movement Discussions

By my quick calculation, of the 30 League players that Sturt played in 2014, 17 came through the SFC junior pogram. Kirkwood, Beard and Watt from Port Adelaide, Duldig (Glenelg via the Barossa League) Hinge and Panozzo via Glenelg, Tambling, ex Crows and Rory Taggert recruited from Melbourne F.C. By ...

Re: 2014 Retirements & 2015 Player Movement Discussions

Geez, Heater...don't tell Tom that he was educated at St. Peter's! It'd be like telling an Englishman they fought for the Germans given Prince's hatred of St. Peter's. Believe me, he definitely did not go to St. Peter's, unlike his cousin, James McLeay, who did attend Saints. The Adeliade Uni ...

Re: Doctors attending SANFL matches

Post AFC/PAFC it has been extremely difficult to find Doctors to assist at SANFL clubs. When I first started at Sturt in 1980, when training was only 2 nights per week and match day, there was a Doctor and a Physiotherapist present at every session. Now, there is no Doctor during the week (this may ...

Re: Doctors attending SANFL matches

What worries me is where the clubs will find themselves when the current crop of Head Trainer's retire? The days of SANFL clubs having training staff and Head Trainers of long service are coming to an end.

I think you make a great point here - and not just at SANFL level, but especially at lower ...

Re: SANFL Player Movements - 2015 / 2016

The Sturt Football Club is pleased to announce that Brodie Martin and Aidan Riley have signed to play for the Club for the next 2 years. Brodie returns to the Club after 8 years and 38 games with the Adelaide Football Club, while Aidan returns after 3 years with Adelaide and the past 2 seasons on ...

Re: SANFL Player Movements - 2015 / 2016

A couple of ex Double Blues players trying to rejuvenate their SANFL careers at a new club, perhaps?

You wouldn't be talking about one who played at Mount Compass last year and another who played at Torrens Valley in 2015, Phil? Good luck to both of them. One has an X factor about him but ...

Re: Is Ben Warren getting squeezed out.

Yes, TRB. David Oatey is Robert's son. He did play at Sturt. and has been at Norwood in various Junior development roles for some time. From my observations, he is a workaholic. It was pleasing to see him win a premiership with Norwood's Under 18's this year. They have been consistent finals ...

I'll be donating even though I'm not A GFC supporter. I'd hate to see any club with a long tradition fold, regardless of any decisions made re AFL participation.

Re: Lokan sacked

Fair point there Knowledge. I will take you at your word, because it looks to make sense.
I guess the misconception is probably borne from the fact that professional clubs have the luxury of being able to provide the time for players to recuperate, whereas SANFL clubs cannot afford to pay their ...

Nathan Grima is the new Sturt coach!

Are you sure his initial is H ? According to a quick search on Trove West's trainer in 1928 was Arthur Brew....... Arthur brew.jpg

Re: Preliminary Final teams.

Did the 4th umpire know about the 19th man?

Yes.......their response was "North will get fined"

That is staggering.
4th umpire will be looking for a new job.

Not so staggering given the quality of glass-jawed prima donna umpires we have in this state. And it starts at the top. Incompetence ...

Re: Female Footy

There are people in football clubs around Australia who have dedicated most of their lives to their clubs as part-time/casual while working full time hours or volunteers and been paid next to nothing, or, not at all. Yet, code-jumping mercenaries who have given nothing but 5 minutes to the sport ...

Re: Eagles seeking compensation

The Prelim Final last year will be talked about for many years to come - maybe it will take over from the 1982 Granger Prelim Final as the most discussed PF in history. WWT lead by 52 points during the 3rd quarter and yet lose to North Adelaide who by the way had a 19th man on the ground for a few ...
