Re: West End Brewery

West End is easily still the best seller at our pub and other pubs I've drank at.
Other beers only give it a run for money if they're on special.
Obviously your pub & the other pubs you drink at are in the minority otherwise they wouldn’t be shutting shop
FWIW at my local, very few drink West End. Carlton Draught easily sells the most followed by Coopers Pale.
Don't think it's so much that (even though they're your old fashion front bars more than artsy crappy wankerfest) , it's just pubs like that are getting so many less people in these days. Because of Covid we had to get rid of happy hours, raffles, the pool table, etc resulting in a big downturn.

Last time West End was sold at Adelaide Oval it was easily the best seller at the bar I worked at despite being only in cans and not on tap. Got heaps of complaints at the cricket after we stopped selling it.

Marketing might have something to do with it too as 3 places I worked never even had it.
Like decent cider, Carlton Draught is getting rarer and rarer too, I'm always looking out for it as my mate drinks it.

Anyway I support a South Aussie company and will go up to the bar at the Royal now and grab another Pale. ;) Pubs also charging up to $9 for a pint also doesn’t help.

I used to go to the pub a couple of times a week now I’m lucky to go once a month.

The prices are ridiculous when you look at the cost of an actual keg.

The other thing is the downturn in pubs with TAB.

With betting apps and beer prices the traditional Saturday arvo groups of blokes who have 10 pints and a punt are slowly turning their backs, me included

Re: Things that you are looking forward to

Cheers guys, keep them coming! I'll put a list together for the missus.
It used to be at the Findon, Hope Inn and Royal all close by but has dropped off their taps.
Reepham used to have it when I last drank there but that was a few years ago now.
I've also been told the Links still has it

I also like a Bulmers on tap, unfortunately the pubs seem to be changing over to Somersby's which is absolute sugar filled tripe made for 15 year old girls

Re: Things that you rate!

I’ve now joined the quitting my job club.

It was starting to do my head in with internal power struggles from interstate that started to affect the business I have run here for 6 years.

Already been offered another role with a 20% pay increase, home office and no staff.

Re: I need to know....

Am I the only silly bastard on here still working?
It’s very quiet

I'm working through til Friday evening.
One of the problems with the new job is I don't have enough leave built up yet.

Agreed though, this place has been fairly quiet this week.

Sitting there playing with your Texas Instruments TI-83 Plus calculator? :-B

More sitting here on SA Footy getting paid to talk rubbish. My last official day is Jan 3rd.
Did it deliberately so they have to pay me for the public holidays.
They asked me to send my laptop and phone to Perth Monday morning so said my goodbyes and never went back!

Re: Season 2022 Player Movements

Naish officially joining West Coast

SANFL have just updated their "coming and going" article and Chris Jansen is no longer listed as an "in" for Norwood. Is that just a mistake in teh article, or does anyone know where CJ has gone? An AFL list somewhere I suppose? The Norwood Football Club would like to advise its members and supporters that midfielder Chris Jansen will not be returning to the football club in Season 2022.

Jansen signed with Norwood in November 2021, following stints at Port Melbourne and North Melbourne in the VFL.

Unfortunately due to changing employment circumstances, Chris has advised the football club that he will be unable to relocate to South Australia for the 2022 season.

“We have been in constant dialogue with Chris regarding his employment from prior to when he signed with the club,” Football Services Manager Rob Harding said.

“While it is unfortunate that Chris’s work situation has changed and he is unable to join us this season, we will remain in contact with Chris throughout the year and should his circumstances change we would love to have him return to our football club.

“We wish him all the best for this year.”

Re: Things that you are looking forward to

Like Wegs, I've got tickets for myself and my son to go to Melbourne for Rd 1.

For us, we'll see the Richmond v Carlton game at the MCG, then hang around for the Friday night game St Kilda v Collingwood.

Can't wait to get back to the G and the roar of the crowds. I’ve booked for myself and the 10yo to go in R4 as a surprise.

Rich v WB MCG Sat night
ESS v Cows Marvel Sunday

Will be his first Melbourne experience so looking forward to seeing his reaction.

Paying through the nose for accommodation because I booked flights first.

Bloody GP weekend

Re: Restaurant & Pub Reviews

Stayed at the Sofitel again Saturday so ate at their restaurant Garçon Bleu.
Have had dinner here a few times now and always pretty good. Both had Steak and cooked to perfection. Real nice bit of meat with generous serve of fries which were superb and some rabbit food.
Had a beautiful peppercorn gravy and all up a top dinner. Was too full for desert after pigging out out the club lounge on free food and grog for 2hrs. The hotels sommelier was very knowledgeable and we grabbed a great bottle of French Pinot Grigio. Accor plus membership automatically knocks 50% off the food bill which is a bonus

Dumb question but I'll chuck it out there.

What's everyone's go to for gravy? I vary from time to time but generally I'll roll with the peppercorn, I always stock the maggi rich at home so it's not such a luxury anymore, it is the best gravy IMO.

Re: Restaurant & Pub Reviews

Meat and Wine Co - Currie St, Adelaide.

Upon arrival the steep stairs from the busy city street hides the opulence within, however as you enter the heritage listed Elder House you realize this isn't going to be your average dining experience. Greeted at reception by smartly dressed staff operating on state of the art systems you immediately get the feeling you're in a quality establishment.

Seated in comfortable wrap around leather chairs your waiter promptly offers water and leaves you to settle.

Our adult children gave us the Ultimate Steakhouse Experience voucher for Xmas and the menu delivered was as follows :

To Start:

Garlic Bread (V) - Buttermilk buns, garlic butter, Parmesan and garlic crisps
Entree to Share:
Szechuan calamari - Excellent crispy batter, peppery dipping sauce. 10/10
Boerewors - South African beef sausages, chunky, bold, big flavors. 10/10

To Follow, you have the choice of :
Fillet 200g - MONTE GRAIN FED 120 DAYS. Mrs Boon went with this and salad. Salad had a perfectly balanced dressing, steak was perfect medium and the peppercorn sauce an explosion of peppery goodness.
Pork Ribs - Full Rack. Feed. Me. Meat. My word! The 1kg full rack, 12 hour slow cooked in sticky BBQ sauce ( bowl of lemon water provided for the hands and a bowl for the bones on the side ) fell to pieces. It took some doing, but I'm the man for the job. 10/10.

Bottle of house wine was an Eden Valley Sav Blanc, I'm no wine drinker but pairing it with the calamari entre made for a very pleasurable experience indeed.

Dessert:
Crème Brûlée - As good as it gets, the top cracked to pieces, the base firm but soft and delicious.
Chocolate & Hazelnut Fondant - Well, well, well. Arrived looking like a chocolate muffin with some coffee ice cream, once you took to it though the fondant flowed from within and was the perfect rich end to an excellent meal.

Food - 10/10
Service - 10/10

Highly, highly recommend for a special occasion.

They used to have Happy Hour from 4-6pm, $5 beers from memory.

After that and then more drinks with dinner, those stairs are deadly.
