Re: AFL Season 2023

First week of finals
The 4 ''''home teams''' were
CO beat ML
CA beat SS:
SK lose GW
BL beat PA

The one team that lost was SK
SK played at the MCG
They had a home state final but not a home ground advantage at MarvAL

MorALly this is wrong
They squeeze more into the MCG than MArveL, thats fine for the AFL who most prob make extra $$$$
Crowd was 68, 465
But is it fair for the players of SK ? Wait until you play "home" finals at the opposition's home ground

Lost at the selection table, but Ken and the fans will still defend the decisions.

The club seriously needs and outside influence to come in and change things up. Lol, I'm pretty drunk but that's all in your head. Port fans care calling for blood at the moment and have desisted about 10 players themselves.

Re: Gaza FC - Salary Cap Breaches

I know that there is some data to the effect that there are far less clubs falling over post salary cap than pre salary cap, but not sure to what extent this is correlation as opposed to causation.

Only in my opinion, however I also suspect an unspoken reason why salary caps are in place is to also keep the tax department at bay. I do find it interesting how blokes can knowingly can get paid $9-10k in traceable funds a year on top of their current earnings and not pay a cent in tax (In some cases much more as coach ect) - If that goes too big then you are giving the tax department a real good reason to get involved. Also, if you get too big you can leave yourself wide open to more interesting activities as we have seen in some cases with grass roots soccer across the country.

Interesting discussion this

I was talking with an AdFL umpire at the pub and he said he gets taxed on his payment yet others say they dont.
My understanding was hobbies weren't taxable until the ATO deems them to no longer be a hobby (ie) you are earning regular good money. You also cant claim deductions (which is fair enough)
Anyone know for sure?

Re: 2024 Adelaide Footy League -Division 2

It's not easy to do

Have a look at PAOC last year
They were a bees knacker away from getting relegated & ended up in the GF
It wasn't for the lack of trying to find replacements. We just couldn't
Very difficult to replace 140 goals - we were 550 points down in attack from the previous year
They got Barto back for the 2nd half which made a difference - he was our top goal kicker

This year we have 2 new players + 115 goals

One slip and you're gone in the top 2 divisions ala Goodwood

Re: Things that give you the sh1ts

3 minute Telephone doctors appointment this morning re getting a prescription

Just got billed $92.70 no wonder everyone goes to hospitals that is simply robbery

No shit, same thing today, $62.80 to find out my lad's xray results. I know I'll get $42.80 back but seriously.....and the Doc called 3 hours late.

This is the real reason of ramping, not the lack of paramedcis/ambulances etc (although they are real problems to). Make GP's affordable/accessible and hospitals would be less inundated with "minor" issues.

I have always said the way to fix ramping is charge doctors rates to visit.
But no government has the balls to properly address the problem

Re: Black listed companies

After the way Optus treated my aunt after my uncle passed away a couple of years ago, I would never go back to them.

She went to cancel his service following his passing. Their first response was that he had to contact them to cancel the cover. After they dragged the chain on the cancellation for months, the TIO got involved. Once the complaint was resolved and his phone service finally cancelled, they asked my aunt if he'd be interested in a new phone plan!
That is bad.

But that’s on an individual not the actual company

If it was just one employee, then yep I'd get that.

But the whole process took about 6 months for them do a simple cancellation of a deceased estate - involving multiple agents. Not to mention their complaints team actually thought it was acceptable to sell a mobile phone to a dead person.

I think Facebook did something like this
"You need to organise for the deceased person to delist the page"

Re: The never ending No AFL in the SANFL whinge thread

Yes to Bass but the other clubs have now worked out how to beat it

It wasn't Rawlings' game plan that won that one. Quite the opposite. Change or you're not here next year.
Then we win it so he goes back this year to try to prove his game plan does work

Buckley did the same (although he missed the premiership). They cant help themselves. Maximum hubris

That was easier than shooting fish in a barrel.

Bass will be the head coach before the end of next season, let’s see if he’ll change anything from that ultra defensive game plan that, as you say, everyone worked out years ago.

Maybe I need to create a separate Norwood whinging thread. 8)

It's just that we like to win premierships........... :P

Re: The South Australian Political Landscape

The problem with politics has been years in the making, and isn’t confined to State or even Federal political parties, it’s manifested itself throughout democratic countries. SA has some unique quirks though.

There are few politicians will real conviction anymore; popularism is king.

Shit, I despised a lot of Howard’s policies, but at least he had some conviction. Same for Hawke, Keating and Whitlam. Fraser seemed to have that quality after he left parliament. We’ve had muppets since.

In SA, you had Hall and Dunstan. Imagine any political party today who could only get re-elected by virtue of an obscene gerrymander, but then have a leader who instigated reforms to remove it. That’s what Steele Hall did.

As we moved from the 70’s into the 80’s, there was the blip called David Tonkin, then the Bannon years. Yes, it ended in disaster, be he was unassuming and also someone of substance. Arnold was given the ruins and had no hope of holding power, so the longest period of Liberals in power began (since Playford), lasting just over 8 years. Brown was a genuine and decent leader, but rolled by the entitled Olsen, who was targeted from within and eventually self imploded. Kerin then picked up the mess to run it out until the Rann, and then Weatherill years.

This is where Labor honed their ‘electoral maximisation skills’. They skilfully targeted marginal seats at the expense of all the safe seats to cling onto power for 16 long years. Rann was a Dunstan wanna be, and Weatherill was just an opportunist.

What did the Liberals do during these 16 long years? Court the electorate? Provide a serious alternative? Nope, they spent most of their energy on a civil war that started in the 60’s. 2 generations of Halls, Chapmans, Evans, then throw in a Wilson and DeGaris, formed the basis of the warring factions. The ashes of these wars are still smouldering today.

Marshall was the Liberal’s attempt to move on from the factions, but he was hopeless, and an easy prey from a well oiled Labor electoral machine. Enter Malinauskas, a genuine popularist who cleverly touted his youth. Having his rig displayed for all at a pool certain helped.

The Liberals are trying to move on from all that past, but have no idea how to do it. Labor, if there is anything you can say about them, are disciplined and are a machine when it comes to engaging in electoral warfare. I’m not sure the next Liberal Premier is even in parliament yet.

So, in my opinion, this is why you have what you have today in SA politics, and it’s depressing.

A very good summary other than the Labor gerrymander during the Rann / Weatherill years which Labor blamed on Steele Hall!
I know Labor thought Marshall would get a 2nd term due to the pandemic but the people suddenly turned against him because they wanted the government to take charge back again.

Then add in the worst election campaign in history. J. Christ Esq wouldn't have got elected on that campaign. Labor's campaign was targeted and effective despite the mis / disinformation which the Liberals were totally ineffective in countering. They thought they were going to romp it in

Re: 2024 Adelaide Footy League - Division 1

Given many of them are good mates you'd think they'd sacrifice the money for the opportunity to play together.

Lycett just finished a 5 x 600k deal, should be ok.

That's the thing a few people miss, playing with mates, and the chance to win a flag as well.

Correct: If you keep thinking you have to buy a premiership then you will keep buying + keep getting the mercenaries who only play for money & stay a year or two and give nothing back.

You will also continue to ask "how do they fit them under the salary cap?"

Ridiculous & illegal money still being thrown around

$2,000 per game

Are these offers coming from AdlFl clubs? I hear about them from/of players in country leagues. Where; mostly I suspect they've added a bit of mayo to get more from an Adelaide based club, but this is surprising given the recent Gaza happenings.
